end table ideas

Looking for advise on end tables to place on each side of the couch. Large room with cathdral ceiling. Round? Square? Rectangle? The couch and chair are heavy I think but I don't want to change them. Thanks!

Can you show more of the room? Can the sofa be more on the carpet?

I need to see the whole space in one picture. As I see it now you only have space for one end table and that will be between the chair and the sofa with a nice lamp. The other end of the sofa has no space .so maybe a coffee table could work .

Are you keeping the elaborate mirror and console table? Do you want something equally elaborate for side table and coffee table?

adding more pictures. Not sure about keeping the mirror and table console in the corner. Although I like those pieces, they were purchased with a different couch and chair. So I'm up for suggestions to change it. And lamp suggestions for the end tables too please? Thanks so much.

Above is probably the best picture of the whole space.

depends on what you use the tables for and how much room on them you'll need.

I personally would choose square. Simple.

Table top level with top of arm and large enough to fill the space between chair and sofa.

Room for a table lamp AND something to sit on it, like a large book, plate, plant, make it useful, it's not just for looks.

A large round ottoman/coffee table in from of the sofa.

a round cocktail able between the chairs, not matching, something that looks more curated.

Between the chair and sofa (making a corner) I would choose something substantial like this. I wouldn't do anything matching at each end, the coffee table or ottoman will allow for the peeps on the end of the sofa to set a drink down. Don't crowd the space on either end.

and for between the two chairs, just for a cocktail or cup of coffee, something round, like this

I'd look for a large round upholstered ottoman that you could add a big tray when you needed room for serving. Keep the sofa centered on the firebox, the chairs can go anywhere.

Looks like the tv console should be moved down toward the fireplace. This will also free up aisle space between it and the sofa. I would do a coffee table in middle, square or rectangle and small side table between two chairs. Also a nice lamp and plants.

If you leave the console where it is, there will be no space for an end table.

So, just one table between the chair and the sofa. Go with the tone of the console.

Have you considered switching the sofa to where the chairs are? It looks very tight to move from the front door to the living room. End tables would block access to the seating area.

I thing the rug should be turned in the room.

Here are two layouts for the room.

Also, I think your patterned rug doesn't really work with your furnishings selections. Here are alternate rugs that IMO work better with your selections.

I think a round shape is better for your end table.

Any shape is ok as long as it's leggy because your sofa and chair are not.

Are any of the tables pictured in comments available on HOUZZ?

The rug is bold, but I think it can work as long as other choices are equally bold and confident, yet don't fight the rug for dominance. I'd move the TV/console toward the window for balance and easier viewing from the sofa. I'd choose a brown wood end table, round or square, for the corner between sofa and chair and no table at the other end of the sofa, as others have said. I'd look for a coffee table that contrasts with the clean-lined contemporary furnishings: carved, rustic, whitewashed, and chunky to hold its own against the rug. Something like this?

Then add art pieces: varied, with something large and dramatic on the wall behind the sofa. I liked her because she repeats the brown of the TV console.

The curated, collected-over-time look that results appeals to me.

I like a glass topped table. It always looks “lighter” and doesn’t compete with your furniture.
