It depends the context . What is the style of the kitchen, what is the sty;e of the cabinetry.

This was in your idea book........? What are you doing and what is the look?

It is oak? It is rift sawn select? grade ? It is veneer?

Designing a kitchen with soft white cabinets mixed with some wood cabinets. The picture above has a similar look except the wood grain I m getting is lighter. Almost a mushroom white.

Would think a vertically oriented grain would be more desirable with most kitchen cabinets since most are taller than they are wide. Is your cabinet supplier giving you a choice?

In general, you want vertical because wood grain is vertical in the tree, so horizontal a limited height before you need two boards stacked. If you're doing wood-look, just don't.

Industry standard is that paneled type door bodies are vertical, with the stiles and rails going vertical and horizontal. Drawers are horizontal, with stiles and rails going vertical and horizontal. And none of the graining is especially thoughtfully matched in the lower priced lines.

For custom slab doors, you can specify any which way you want the veneer slices to be laid. Vertical or horizontal. For high end custom slab, you can specify slip matched or bookmatched veneer, if you can afford the upcharge to that.
