Replacement windows aluminum wrap question

last modified: last month

Hello Experts,

I am currently in the process of having all of the windows in my home replaced. They are replacing from builder grade vinyl windows to Simonton 6500 series vinyl windows. The trim is an aluminum wrap that will lie over the fiber cement board lap siding on my house. My question to the experts in the crowd is does the aluminum wrap on the sides of the windows need to caulked and sealed to the lap siding of the house. I asked the installer and he says they don't typically caulk the side wraps since it would look too ugly as the gaps are too large in certain areas. My worry is that the rain, wind, and moisture would get in there. Should it be sealed to the siding? How do you fill the gaps between the siding and the aluminum wrap?
