What colour siding would you choose for a typical split level?

last month

Would love to hear what colour siding you would choose! I want something that will stand the test of time and will look timeless.

Where in the country are you? (For scorching summers, a dark color will make the house hotter - a light color may keep it cooler.) Another consideration is neighbors. What color are your neighbors houses? You don't want to look too similar or too different. Will you be spending more than five years in this home? If so, be sure to pick a color that you like. If you will be spending less than five years, consider resale curb appeal in your decision.

I live in Canada! Haha. It shows about 9 months of the year so its definitely cold here! Any recommendations for siding colours?

I think blue is pretty universally liked. If you know which brand and product line of siding you will be using (and you should chose that first), you should know which colors you have to choose from. You can always post a picture of a sample board here if you're having trouble choosing. If you're planning on living in this house for a long time, just choose what you like. As long as you stay away from polarizing colors like black, orange, pink and purple you should be OK.

Show the actual house for real help. And Canada is pretty big!

Blue with white trim is pretty classic.

    " typical split level?"

Is there such a thing? Context is key. What color is the roof? Trim? Windows? Gutters?

Too many things to consider to even give an opinion …….

Sorry everyone for the lack of info - this is a prefab model that we are having built! That was the example shown. The roof and windows will be as in the photo but the siding colour we get to choose! Sorry for not giving that info initially but the house will look exactly like that!

We know the photo is not your house; assuming you are considering a purchase from Brookside Cottage Homes. And, it is a raised ranch and not a split level. Brookside is a preassembled, production build, what paint colors are offered? The site says Sherwin Williams.

How about something like this combo, with bright white for trim, which will draw attention to the two gables.

    Loveeeee that oncape!!!

so you aren't repainting it's a new build?

All the colors you have listed are very dark, fine, but as you say 9 months of snow, I'd look for something mid tone, not as dark as your options and not white.

Will you have mature trees or is it in a stripped down lot?

Yeah, this is a split entry, not a split level home.

In a super cold climate like yours, I’d go with a warm and cozy color. Not gray. Not blue. Green, cream, tan, rust, or a sophisticated mix of those. I like some of Beth’s examples.
