You might consider James Hardie Timber Bark color to go with your red brick.

I would look for siding a bit more the color of your brick, so the house blends together.

I don't think siding is the best exterior material for your home. Here are some examples.

Yes, it feels a bit off balance. I think it has to do with the color of the house, rather than the windows. Thats why the suggestion, to try to get close to the color of the brick. I just looked up Countrylane red., and that color could be a close match to the red brick. Having a different color totally on the siding, makes it look like two houses tacked together, which gives the off balance look.

With gray shingles, maybe consider Night Gray.

A deep warm gray/brown like Rich Espresso and for trim. They can match the paint. I think it may also be called Brown Blaze?

This is my concept. Stone steps and path, walnut door, greenery. Extend one stair rail at the sunken driveway for safety (AI widened the path for some reason).

Not board and batten but here it is with brick. You can see it changes with the light which is nice.

No, the lower left front window does not need to be replaced with a larger window to create balance or improve curb appeal imo.

You also run the risk when you break into the brick facade for the larger window opening that the brick gets damaged or does not look great around the new opening.

The suggested gray, gray-green and gray-browns for the siding and matched trim look great. Try large sample boards against the brick and roof to see which one works best.

The bushes on the left side need pruning as they are a bit too tall and wide. What are they? Some flowers in a complemrntary color to the house in front of the bushes and next to the steps would look good.

I think that your current siding color works….except….for the white windows! I would surely NOT use dark colors or gray. Dark houses are cool at Halloween, but look very forebodeing the rest of the year!

Just playing around with different siding colors and different trim colors. The brick color gets changed a bit in my pics from your actual brick but it gives a decent idea of what it might look like. I like the red more than I first thought I would.

I like Emilys first and last picture. I dont much care for the middle picture. The red color on the siding, makes the house look, so more cohesive, and you will notice, it doesnt look off balance anymore either.

I wouldn't change siding, especially to something as expensive as the James Hardie siding, without carefully thinking through window, roof, door, and step color. Even if you can do only one thing now, have a plan for everything. I find that people tend to prefer white windows for the lower cost. With white windows, white or pale grey siding looks great. Grey roof, grey steps and a darker grey door finish the job. If you aren't willing to change window color, go with white or pale grey. If you are willing to switch to dark windows, that's a whole other conversation.

Please find out what your shrubs are before just "pruning" them. It's possible they are just badly over-pruned and could be fabulous if cared for as they were meant to be. Depending on the species, it may be possible to cut them back to a lower height. Google lense thinks they might be something in the blueberry family, and should have a looser look to them, not a giant globe shape. Any chance there was shade on that side of the house in the past? I see pine trees in the background and bare trees, so it's winter in the picture and they are some kind of evergreen, maybe a pieris or rhododendron. Both look great if the pruning is done better. And both have gorgeous flowers if not pruned at the wrong time of year. Do find out before possibly ruining what might be stunning shrubs.

kl23 - good points - We definitely will be doing the front door, walkway and steps as well. We probably can not change the windows at this time due to budget - The roof will stay the same as it is only 10 years old!

Thank you, Emily - I hadn't thought of red, but I actually do like it. My issue is that my brick doesn't look that great, and I don't know how to refresh it or make it look nice as we update the rest of the house. Part of me wants to just side the whole thing...

I like the look of your brick but if you don’t like it, you might consider lime washing it. Here’s an option if you want to go that route.

Emily - I really like the white brick with gray siding! Really updates the look!

The white looks fresh and clean while still keeping the brick.
