Rose Road Trip, Rosarians and Roses!

last modified: 6 days ago

Note to self, the body needs more recovery time from transcontinental travel immediately followed by driving up to NorCal and back, but boy, did I have a lot of fun!

I recently took a rose road trip to visit some amazing rosarians and the splendor of their gardens. What I learned is that there is NO substitute for the gift of meeting in-person and strolling through gardens, resulting from years of effort and care! Also, experiencing roses IRL affords a better understanding of growth habit, overall impression, and FRAGRANCE, than the output of a myriad of internet queries.

Very special thanks to Kim Rupert for introductions!

Thank you to Gregg Lowery for your time, talent and tour of the grounds of The Friends of Vintage Roses, @catspa_zone9sunset14 for sharing your garden and the pink beauties (Zalud House Shingled Raspberry and the Portland Mystery Rose of Glendora) that I hope will abundantly bloom in my own garden and @susan9santabarbara for root stock and sharing your story of the resilience of a rose gardener who would not let Sudden Oak Death stop the actualization of your dream rose garden!

I hope to get up to NorCal again to visit @jacqueline9CA and @BenT (NorCal 9B Sunset 14) and any others who’d enjoy talking roses!

I also got a chance to stop by Otto & Sons. Always lovely!

Some highlights!
