I like your Red Edition seedling. It will be a learning curve I would think on how evergreens will do in your "new" climate. I've not seen too many Hansen's thrive in colder climates. Fingers crossed for yours............Maryl

I was checking the radar the past two days and thought you were going to get signifigant rain, so sorry to hear that didnt happen. Hope that happens soon. We got blessed with 1 1/2 ” of rain this time after only 1/2” in all of May.

I have always liked the look of Diver Down. I agree that the red seedling is very pretty. Are you still working with reds in your hybridizing?

Sherry had only half an inch of rain in all of May?! Our rainfall is similar to Debra's. Still waiting in soupy weather. When I saw Hansens at Crintonic, they could be beautiful, but slow to multiply and very modest bud count. Blazing Saddles does well here, though.

Mantis - Diver Down multiplied from 5 fans to 7 in a part-shade position last year. I think it will multiply better now that it gets full sun. The Hansen that does not want to multiply for me is Unbound. It didn't multiply well in Nashville or here. I have three other Hansens. Blazing Saddles and Absolute Ripper seem to multiply OK here. Yoga Man multiplies OK, but the harsh winter and plants with taller foliage did a number on it this season.

Kate - I am still working on reds with my hybridizing. I have some second-year seedlings from a cross of Stolen Heart and Patriot's Day, and I started several cups of seedlings this Spring, which are my older seedlings crossed with various reds. I've yet to produce a red with consistently high bud counts.

Sherry - The TV weather forecasters here, like you, thought all of Indy would get that rain yesterday. But Mother Nature had other plans. I'm glad you got a good amount of rain. I think the red seedling is probably destined to have bud counts of 8-10 be slow as molasses multiplying here. It does rebloom here though, unlike so many of my registered rebloomers.

Maryl - Some of my southern evergreens are doing exceptionally well here. For example, Sensational Heart has a lot more buds and branching this year than it ever had in Nashville, and it will probably be one of my bud kings this year. It's much taller than registered too! But most evergreens are short on scape height and buds here. Some of them will need to move south. In another year I'll know for sure.

Yep, 1/2” of rain in all of May. We had a few sprinkles in May that didnt show anything measureable in my rain gauge. I got tired of seeing the storms scoot around us.

Debra: Your red seedling is very nice and I like the pencil edge on it. . We are due for rain here over the next couple of days. Doesn't look like much in terms of amount but with the heat and humidity coming in again any amount is a blessing.
