To me, because it is tall and thin, it seems to ask for a mate. you can try pushing it a bit towards the center and see if it stands on its own with more presence.

I would use just the one lamp. add to the styling when you find a treasure.

And I would go immediately back to store & get the other lamp before it’s gone! I like it & I agree with @lisaam that it’s asking for its mate. It’s not too formal. The shade is perfect for it. I think it’ll be $$ to get a new shade & maybe hard to find one that shape too. I can’t see any other style on the lamp.

ETA - I don’t agree this lamp would work as a single bedside lamp. It’s a buffet lamp & perfect on your buffet.

So it doesn't look bad with the artwork and rustic-ness of the furniture? I'm more concerned about the olive green glass not working well with the greens in the painting (which mirror the other greens in my kitchen) than I am with it being too MCM.

There's a little peach in the artwork, so I'm okay with the reddish-amber in the ball portion. Like I said, I will paint the silver portions a dark brown color.

ETA: I think what's bugging me more than the olive is the color of the shade -- it just doesn't look good against the wall color IMO. I should go googling to find a better color shade, someone out there has to have a similar size and shape shade. What exactly do you call this shape anyway? Oh, if I could find a dark brown leather shade in this shape that would be the cat's meow.

Sorry, I know you weren’t asking about this, but I would align the center of the table to the center of the buffet otherwise it loooks a bit wonky.

I like your mock-up Emily, really helpful visual - thank you for that! Yes, pulling the pair in closer together would look much better than spaced far apart.

I would grab the other one while you can but I would do some research on those before you change them. They look to be in original condition and you may have a hidden treasure on your hands? Is there any maker's mark on the bottom?

@porkchop_z5b_MI - that lamp shade is perfect with the lamp and the art & it looks great with the wall color as its background! The green in lamp is good with green in art. IMO it would be a mistake to paint the silver on lamp a dark brown. That would kill the beauty of that lamp & adding another layer of dark brown wouldn’t add to the room. Again IMO. The dark brown frame on art ties in nicely with dark brown wood wrapped windows & with the dark brown top on half wall. And that’s enough dark brown. The space has lighter brown wood furniture that goes very nicely with the light brown wood flooring. The green in the art adds a feel of nature & the peachy tone in art softens & adds nice contrast. The lamp colors accent & add a lot of interest to the space. You have a good eye for picking them up. I think I see a gold glass pot on that table under the windows - please try it on the buffet. Looks like there’s a green pot there too - add it to the gold one - cluster the two together & add one more item to make 3. There are more possibles on the shelving under window but I can’t enlarge enough to make them out.

ETA: I think @katinparadise might be on to something - you might want to do some image searches on those lamps - look for makers mark on them. You might have a hidden treasure as she said.

i wouldn't paint the silver. I goes with the lamp and you already have plenty of brown in your space. They are marvelous!! Hope the other is still there! Perfect for your buffet.

Yes, that's a cool lamp. Anything but cookie-cutter. Grab the other one quickly, as two will look balanced on the buffet.

The shade may be worth more than the lamp if it is vintage. Get the second lamp. Are you on Reddit? If so, post the lamp in the MCM subreddit and you may be able to get more details on the maker. From looking at the electrical cord, it looks vintage.

I agree buy the other lamp ASAP…Don’t do anything to it. It’s a unique collectors item, vintage, and adds character to your space. It’s a curated item. It doesn’t need to match the painting perfectly. The two lamps in the mock up that Emily did with the extra items on the Buffet looks great.

Beautiful glass by the way, I can see why you really like this. I wouldn’t paint the silver, or change the shade.

Stunning, really… doesn’t get better than Emily’s mock up here. 🥰The warmth in the lamp tones and in the shade goes really well with the warm wood tones that you have going in the room, overall. The shape of the lamp is elegant and perfect. A bit of contrast with the painting is fine, and there’s a bit of tie over with the peach tones. You don’t want everything to match perfectly.

It is funny I didn't like the lamp at all when it was on its own, but after seeing the mockups of the two of them together I like them!

Buy the second one. I wouldn’t paint over the silver nor would I change the shade ( it’s unique ).

Update: Ah-HA! I had DH switch the pictures, and the lamps look better with Bossy than the flowers -- the lamp colors go better with the creams and warmer greens here rather than the pure white and bluer-based greens in the flowers one, and I like modern-ness of the lamps juxtaposed against the rustic-ness of the cow. (obviously I bought the other lamp...)

I like them better with the other picture. To me the cow is too harsh with the more delicate lamps. I actually liked the potpourri of colors better with the other one too.

I am with doods on the art choice… I think the delicacy and elegance of the lamps is better suited to the artwork you had there originally. But that’s a personal thing. So glad that you bought the second lamp! There will be so much that you can do with these over the years I am quite envious. A great score.

The lamps look even better than the mock-up. I think either picture works; maybe you can do a seasonal switch out. I do hope you don't eat roast beef in front of the new pic.

Yes, I thing you need a second lamp on the other side. As it is thin, it wont overmess the space, small symetry does not kill your not formal space

I don't really want to eat with a cow staring at me ... I've spent time in farms and seeing the painting, I also "sense" the smells that go along with cows!
