I have a two year old Gallicandy and I am very impressed with its growth. In its first year I planted it too late for a first bloom, but it put out some nice blooms this year. I've found that Gallicas take a while to settle in so I"m patiently waiting for a third or even fourth year for them to really shine.

Among the Barden gallicas, Marianne is the undoubted champion for beautiful and bountiful growth. I've also had Rook in the past and just ordered Etienne for darker colors. I'd rank Gallicandy close to Marianne and perhaps a little stronger and more beautiful bloom than Ellen Tofflemeier.

Frankly all of Paul's gallicas are well worth growing so I recommend taking advantage of the large Gallicandy. They are mannerly for Gallicas without suckering wildly, and the blooms are excellent. We are very fortunate to have Paul as a breeder of the sadly under-appreciated class of Gallicas.

@HU-290063788 Thank you for your detailed review . How long is the blooming period in gallicacandy compared to say Marianne ? I understand its so young and it will get better with age . Also hows the health been of gallicacandy and fragrance ?

I can't speak from experience about the length of bloom because both Gallicandy and Marianne are young plants. They bloomed over a couple of weeks each which isn't what they'll do when mature. My impression is that the bloom length and fragrance is equivalent for the two, though Marianne's blooms touch my heart in ways few other roses do.

We don't get a ton of blackspot pressure in my dry climate, but I've never seen my once-bloomers like gallicas show any signs of disease in Nebraska. Both Gallicandy and Marianne are healthy reliably hardy and beautiful bushes with a good bloom cycle in the spring.

@Sheila z8a Rogue Valley ORthats beaitiful ! i wantwd that but I have seen a fee examples of Ellen suffering a lot in hot and humid summers of georgia . thats why stayed away . May be they prefer dry summers of Oregon
