IMO there are some issues you should address in the room as you make a decision about an area rug.

I'd hang your art vertically and lower on the wall.

IMO the light fixture is not nearly large enough for the room. I'm sure you know that if you add the two dimensions of the room, that will provide you with the minimum diameter for a fixture.

12 + 16 would indicate the fixture should be at leaast 28" in diameter.
