Week #1

Hi all. My name is William, I live over in Wayne County. As you can tell by the photo, i inherited a horrible lawn, and i've never been a fan of them anyways, so I'm slowly getting rid of it. I'd like to put a rain garden in here to make use of this gutter which which drains pretty much half of my home's roof. I did have a street tree, which provided some much needed afternoon shade, but the city took her out this year, and my dogwood is not going to provide much shade for awhile, if I can teach it to survive full sun. I'm interested in sitting on the porch and enjoying the views of a new bed, full of natives.

Week 4:

I decided to rotate the garden to match the lines of my existing beds. I wanted a theme of purples and blues to stay cohesive with the yard. I wonder if more fox sedge will help cover space until the dogwoods reach full size?

Week 2:

My total Roof Area that will drain to the garden is 422 sq ft. The water in the hole I dug drained within 3 hrs. 422 x .02= 84.4 sq ft.

Week 3:

I think i'm liking this shape, it stays away from the gas line, my house, and wont overflow onto my neighbor's driveway. I'm wondering how wide the berm should be though. I've got joe pye weed and great blue lobelia in the back yard that i could transplant up, but i also got some Red twig dogwood that i propogated and is gonna need to go somewhere. I think that would screen the front porch real good for some privacy.

I Spent Saturday morning digging out the front lawn to the amusement of some of my neighbors. I'm going to get mulch soon and will try to make it out to the wild type public sale in a few weeks. I'm excited to get stuff into the ground!

Amazing work William! Wow! Looks great. I love how you adjusted the design so you can slip a lawnmower between the two beds. Very practial. Can't wait to see what you plant!
