Change the wall color. I love the floors, doors and railings. Depending on the wall color you choose, a new runner for the stairs might be a good idea.

What if you just painted the stair wall an accent color like Peppercorn (you have the black hardware on the door) and changed the runner and added new accent pillows, etc in the living room?

Random thoughts:

- I don't know what "organic modern" is.

- I'd reconsider the railing to the right. It serves no purpose and creates an obstacle. I'd rather see a sofa table placed in this position. Or nothing.

- The wood tone you're considering is quite pale. Too pale, in my opinion, especially if matched with black. I really think the tone is much of "what's wrong".

- Another part of "what's wrong" is that the space is empty. A colorful rug, a wreath on the inside, the aforementioned sofa table + some decoration items will make it look "lived in".

- The gray carpet on the stairs doesn't mesh with the wood tone. Is that more gray in the living room on the right?

- Your closet door is white, and your inside door is wood. Perhaps this is part of the problem? Askin' , not tellin'.

- Another question: Are you adding a storm door to the exterior? If so, you need to decide its color too.

Instead of the spindle railing, consider doing a knee wall with the same pretty wood as a top ledge. Then you could easily have a console or bench there at the entry.

Those wood tones look a bit like pickled oak from the 1980's.

Go get real samples of the materials/colors/patterns you want to use in the house.

I think it looks almost right. Maybe more pronounce wood grains on the door?

The door IMO not modern at all black and white will not make it modern. The pic Maureen posted is a much better look if modern is the plan. Not seeing much modern in your idea books.I agree that divider at the entry is pretty blah a pony wall may be the answer. The wood does look a bit pickled. I sure would not put a wreath on the door , I really do not know what you think is organic modern . Nothing in that entry you show is modern or organic

One option you may want to explore is making the entry door the focal point rather than trying to blend it into the wall. A large-scale wood pivot door can create that modern organic feel while still keeping the warmth and texture you're looking for—especially if you prefer less glass.

Whatever direction you choose, I’d consider letting the door be the architectural feature and designing the surrounding elements around it. The entry is the first impression of the home, and it’s a great place to introduce the new style you’re creating.

The door and railing stain is too similar to loot and it makes it look mousy, so I think you just need to deepen the stain to get more contrast.

You could go black on your door and on the railings but personally I think I like it stained better.
