@DIS - unfortunately the Fiezy Pearson rug doesnt come in the size I am looking for. The largest size is 10 x 12' 8". In order for all furniture to be on the rug, I need 10 x 13 at a minimum.

9'6" x 13' 4" would be ideal.

I love that rug that you're showing right now that is kind of a muted like the picture the art you know what I'm saying and I think that would work if you really want that one or you'd have to keep looking

As an artist - go larger and more dramatic with your art piece.

Your floor is so busy. While the rugs you posted are nice, I think that they don’t go well with your floor.

In most rooms the artwork is always subordinate, furniture is dominate, floor is subdominant.

@ Margo L However, the art is massive and is in a small, minimalist room. Does this fact make it dominant? Just asking cuz I'm curious.

To me the rug and the art brings it all together your artist is a good size for the room already it doesn't need to be any bigger or any smaller

I like the first rug real well and then the second rug because so muted I like the third rug but it's third place but if you like it better you can always pick it

All of the white in #1 worrys me a bit. #2 when I do "see in your room" all the colorways for this model look the same, so Im not really sure about the actual color.

@ Abby Marshall a perspective is function, usually that the furniture in a room dominates it because of the size, in relationship to everything else. Art galleries and murals, libraries, churches, work spaces, and other areas
offer exceptions to this point of view.

Craftsman Rugs was one. Luxe Flooring was another (master bedroom rug). I am doing mostly Oushak rugs in this house. Oriental Rug of Houston is the third. My dining room rug is from them.

I've been doing A LOT of window shoppinig and also bought a couple new things. I am hoping for your input!

1. Purchased this chair but it is over budget. I tried a similar, cheaper one but no go. I have 30 days to return. I have 2 different chairs on order for a trial. Thoughts?

3. I really must make a decision about the freestanding cabinets next to the FP and I cant decided I forgot about the vent on the wall and that complicates matters. I wanted a tall, dark cabinet with shelves on top and doors or drawers on the bottom but I may need to go more open. I need both display space and a storage space. Maybe open on one side of FP and closed on the other side? I'm worried about proportion and color - large enough, but not overwhelming. Brown? Black? Distressed?

Once the cabs are ordered I can think about tables. Please help me with the cabs if you have time!

That's a nice rug too more muted than the other one and if you want to pick up any color in the picture you could pick up the blue if you find another rug that has a little bit of blue in it

Try swapping the sofa and swivel chair placements so the sofa doesn’t have to be placed on the diagonal. The swivel chairs can be placed at angles and can provide space to access the living area.

I really like the green “out of budget” chairs in the space. Does your budget allow for two of them? You can use them as host/hostess chairs at the ends and then get more budget friendly black wood chairs for the sides. Like this

As far as the living room arrangement I will say I do not care for the angled arrangement . It has no focal point. I think cabinets with legs on either side of the fireplace will be fine.

As far as the art. its subjective so really the answer to that is do you love it?

I'm glad to hear you say you like the chairs, DIS. Yes, I can get 4 and shave off somewhere else to make up for it. I have on order 2 alternatives. I'm waiting for them to arrive so I can compare with the one I have before committing to a set.

After living with the angle for a few days I tend to agree, DIS. When we first moved in I had an ID design a floor plan and she angled the sofa. I had it angled for awhile and then moved to what JTabcz suggested. But I think your layout works best. Its easy to move stuff around right now cuz the room is practically empty.

I ordered a small Fiezy Pearson rug to try. The one in your mood board. The Karastan Divina Sanctum Cream is on order, too. After trying many rugs, I see there needs to be a good balance of warm & cool. I'm not good at figuring out these things in my head.

I don't love the art, but it works and I dont hate it. I thought it would be more colorful. It's REALLY hard to find this size (49 x 27), and framing is extremely expensive. I found this framed canvas for $139. The print and frame are better than average quality. The ocean theme is congruous with the Mangelsen. I'm inclined to leave it be for now, but I have 30 days to return it if I change my mind. If someone has a source for a 47 - 49" x 27-30" framed canvas please send me a link!

I am diligently hunting for the cabinets to place next to the FP. I've used the "see it in your room" function that some online stores provide. Based upon the findings, a width of 38-42" and height of 72 - 82" (for the large wall) is most proportionate. And preferably a smaller one of the same finish and style, for the short FP wall.

I don't know if I'm crazy about the arch, but the size and price are great! 16.54"l x 39.37"w x 74.1"h . $583. Of course it must be assembled..... Modway Nolan

A very simple trick we use when working with a tight budget where custom art isn’t doable and there specific sizes needed is this. Split the size and do two prints. In your case it would be 23” x 27” leaving 3” between the two. You can find simple black frames or wood etc on amazon in this size. Go on Etsy and source digital/ PDF prints That come in that size or close to it. Better to get larger, you can always crop a portion of the piece down. Send that digital print into a printing source like Vista Print or others . Tell them to format the print to the size you want. You can allow for a 2-3” Matt which makes everything look better. Then go down to Hobby Lobby or Michael’s and have the matts cut. Generally you are all in for minimal cost and end up with some fantastic looking art pieces. If that is too much work order the frames and do the matting then order prints from a source and frame. Again you may have to size up to crop down.

All things considered, I may have decided on Sloane w mink finish by Aspenhouse. It's classic although I wish it was wider (it's 34"). So maybe not. Obviously I remain unsure - the bookcase/display case/storage case is such a large piece. It's not my fav of the group, but practical.

I'm just not sure what to do on the other side of the FP. Maybe nothing, There isnt much wall space there,

Abby, are these going to work with the vent on that wall? I understand they are not solid on the bottom but the vent is above the molding.

If the vent is proving problematic you can always do floating cabinets with floating shelves above them.

They also make magnetic vent deflectors that will attach to the vent and blow the air downward so it can move out from under the furniture.

DIS Our walls are plaster. I have nightmares every time anything heavier than a painting goes on the wall! The drapes have held up tho! The vent is proving to be not as problematic as I thought. I just am having trouble making a decision.

I saw this today. Of course it is expensive, but... not out of reach. I'd love to hear your opinions. It looks very nice, but doesnt fufill much in the way of "storage".

Price range $550 - $3300 (a big empty between $1500 and $3300). My local furniture store (Nebraska Furniture Mart) is having a big sale this weekend, so prices are about as low as they are going to get. I've checked against online stores.

Here’s an inexpensive arched hutch.

Rug size is the constraint, not the pattern.

Table is 47" x 80". You want about 24" of rug past the table on all sides so chair legs stay on the rug when people sit down. That is roughly an 8' x 10' rug. A 9' x 12' will crowd the 9' run to the floor vents and you said those vents cannot be covered. Do not buy a rug that lands on the registers.

Keep the rug under the table and chairs only. Do not run it to the art wall. That leaves a clear strip of floor, keeps the vents open, and stops the dining zone from swallowing the living room.

For color: let the large art stay the loud piece. Choose a rug with one or two muted colors pulled from the painting, on a quieter ground. Busy all-over pattern plus big art plus new chairs will fight. Low-contrast pattern or a simple border works better in an open DR/LR.

Chairs: match the table finish more than the rug. If the table is warm wood, a mid-tone wood or upholstered seat in a solid from the art is enough color. Patterned chairs and a patterned rug together usually look busy.

A very narrow console under the 11' art wall is fine if it is shorter than the art and leaves the vents alone. Keep it shallow so chairs still pull out.
