Nix the tiled wall for sure there is nothing decadent about a tiled wall in a PR. Waht is it hubby does not like about wall paper , is it he does not want to install it or what? I like the mirror those sconces are useless as lighting so make sure you have good over head light .Do not let that tiled wall drive choices if you want . Dark brown walls in a bathoom not a choice I would maybe remove the tile repair the wall and prime with 2 coats of primer then decide wall color . The tiled wall and the sconces do not belong in the same space for sure .This could work if the bottom of the wall is done in wainscoting painted the dark brown but I see what look like black tile on the floor so maybe black for the waincoting

Removing the tile, as Patricia said, will open up a lot of options. I also question your husband’s issue against wallpaper. Powder rooms were MADE for wallpaper. They need some pizzazz and doing an interesting design, theme or color can make your guests go “wow”. A friend had a deep purple powder room, which was amazing.
I installed high wainscoting in my tiny powder room (10’ highwalls ) which helped the proportions a lot.

I'm with the other posters on this. Tile is not a good option if you want a really fabulous powder room. Wallpaper is. I would show your husband images of powder rooms from a google search so that he can see how really gorgeous wallpapered powder rooms can be.

If he is afraid of the durability of wallpaper, there are amazing vinyls these days and also many brands sell a contract grade version of their paper that is stain proof and cleanable.

I just ordered a wallpaper from Borastapeter for a powder room and they offered 3 finishes. I tested all 3 samples with liquid foundation. The 2 standard papers did stain, but their contract grade paper cleaned right up with a damp paper towel. This powder room is used by guests staying over, so it is sometimes used for doing hair/makeup when someone else is using the full guest bathroom. I would have picked vinyl too, if they offered it in the pattern I wanted.

In such a small powder room, I‘d skip the cost and effort of adding wall tiles. Just a great moody paint color (could add wall molding) can be very impactful and with the money saved, could replace the sink. Hold off picking a mirror and lighting until the end and suggest leaning more classic.

Brown walls in any bathroom does not look decadent, to me.

I did tile in the powder room of my previous house, but I went all out and used a glass mosaic on all the walls from floor to ceiling. It was pricey and I wouldn't do it again on another project.

Is it a total gut? Will you be adding electrical?

love BM Wenge! But, you'll need a very light floor.

Too small to have tile crowding the feel, especially with the odd angles.

Minimize the crazy angles by either one color BM Wenge or a great Wallpaper in the Wenge deep brown/burgundy color. walls and ceiling, including trim.

Add more lighting, the sconces are not enough. a decadent ceiling fixture and picture light too.

Thanks everyone. To clarify, it is a total gut and there will be a light overhead. I’m also definitely changing the floor to the lighter tile. Here are the two options I’m currently playing with. One still has the tile, but as some other people mentioned I’m worried about closing the room in.

The other is just paint and stencil. Here I wonder is the design I chose is too dense and busy.

You had mentioned you wanted a decadent room, but I’m not seeing that.

Think about the big picture and be sure the walls and flooring work together.

^^^^ I had the same thought as Maureen above - when I suggested the color I did in my first comment, it was due to pulling up BM Wenge -

However, apparently when it dries, it turns much more brown - especially in rooms without any natural light.

Here is another wall painted with BM Wenge - it has violet/purple undertones.

I thought it had more of a red undertone vs. purple/violet - which is why I thought about BM Nicholson. Sorry.

It appears to look like just a dark brown in powder rooms without natural light. It doesn't look "decadent" to me - especially with the tiles that you're considering for the lower portion of the walls.

If you decide to use wallpaper or a stencil on the walls, make sure that you coordinate your floor tile.

If you decide that you really do want a "decadent" powder room, I would reconsider the options that you've shown.

if it were me I’d remove the tile walls, for me it emphasizes the unusual shape of the room - I’d do wallpaper in a heart beat but if that’s not an option i’d be tempted by a light silvery sage green
