I’m renovating my home in Melbourne and one of my main concerns is preventing burglars or thieves from entering through the windows.

I’m trying to understand what type of windows, locks or security glazing would provide a good balance between security, appearance and everyday use. I don’t want the house to look like a fortress, but I’d like to make the windows as difficult as reasonably possible to use as an entry point.

I’m also considering installing a security alarm with window and door sensors, and possibly motion sensors, to provide another layer of protection.

For anyone in Melbourne who has dealt with this, what type of windows/security glazing and alarm setup would you recommend? Are there any particular things I should plan for during a renovation?
