23andMe Class Action Settlement

13 hours ago

Did anyone else get one of these? Is it worth signing up for these services? Worth $1,875? Seems like I get most of this from Apple and my credit cards. Really just wish my data would just be safeguarded but that’s never going to happen.

From my notification:

Once activated, your Privacy & Medical Shield + Genetic Monitoring service will:

  • monitor the dark web and other known stolen data trafficking sites;
  • provide you alerts if your private medical, genetic or other personal information is found for sale or trade;
  • offer a variety of functions to help you reduce your digital footprint over time;
  • provide the opportunity for you to transact online activities in a secure environment;
  • prevent online tracking;
  • provide ongoing opt outs of data broker sales;
  • allow you to manage your passwords and store and transmit important documents safely;
  • provide assistance and insurance if you are a victim of identity or medical fraud;
  • and more.

The retail value of this five-year monitoring service is estimated to be $1,875 per Settlement Class Member and is being provided at no charge to those who enroll.

    It is NOT a scam. It is a legitimate class action settlement.

    More information HERE

    All of those services for free is a good thing. I'd sign up for it - probably wouldn't renew after the "free" runs out. But I'd take the offer.

    @arcy_gw, this is not a scam. I signed on to the lawsuit a couple of years back. My question is about the value of my settlement offer.

    If you were a U.S. customer of 23andMe at any time between May 1, 2023 and October 1, 2023 and received notice that your personal information was compromised in a Cyber Security Incident You are eligible for benefits from this Settlement.

    How could these responses be correct when not presented with key words IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS?

    @foodonastump, that’s kind of my thinking. I mean, after that free offer time period expires I’ll still have the same dna, dob, ssn, mother’s maiden name, home address, phone number, email, etc. Once it’s out there, it’s out there. Give me the money.
