Stuck in the 80's

I am considering making an offer to buy this house, but I really don't like the 80's vibe. It's pretty clear in my mind what I would do to the interior, but I'm a bit stumped on what could be done with the exterior. I can see some areas where putting in more windows would help. The two windows above the garage doors are flanking an area in the bathroom that can't be altered too much, but they could be a bit wider. Or maybe just the exterior needs to be altered?? I'm open to just about any style - Key West, Modernism, Mediterranean - anything that fits in a South Florida coastal area. Any suggestions?

I don't really think it is all that dated looking. It has nice modern lines, and the roof tiles are beautiful. The landscaping looks quite nice as well.

The yellow/beige shade of the stucco is not my favorite ... I'd probably change it to something in the taupe family.

I agree about the color. I'd prefer something more along the lines of sand or taupe.

The color in these images don't even quite capture the yellowness I saw in person. Definitely needs a new paint color, which would go a long way.

I have never had a home like this in my area…we are either new New England construction or antiques. But, from your pictures, I think this home is amazing. It does not look 80’s (if that is a no no) to me, it just looks Mediterranean…and stunning.

That said, never, ever buy a home that does not speak to you. Move on until you find the right one.

There is an article on a Arizona desert house which this reminds me of. The lack of windows and small windows are to keep interior coolness. I imagine there is a central courtyard so the house looks in rather than out. I think a sandy faded terracotta pink would look good. I love the way it looks impregnable and private from the road and imagine warm welcoming 'you are part of the family 'interiors.

I think it is a pretty house also. I especially love the bright red flowers and palm trees. Very pretty!

painting it in up-to-date colors would make a big difference. medium/dark greys are very stylish--maybe grey stucco with blue trim for a nice contrast with the driveway and roof red tones. you also might consider either adding windows to that big wall facing the street with no windows, or else you could add a large metalwork piece of artwork on that wall, or a new tree/large plant. it needs something to break it up a bit.

Beautiful house and yard. Are you happy with the light inside the house? If so, maybe leave the windows as they are and add a cantilevered pergola over the entry to the large garage entrance. Stained medium dark to maintain the "Mediterranean" style. That will help break up that wall a bit, allow opportunity for more greenery like bougainvillea, AND create a nice transition to the front door.

Okay, I'm getting over it. I kinda felt like it just needed some tweaks, maybe some espalier sort of plan things, so I like all these suggestions. We will keep this one on the short list. Not totally sure I want to take on the interior remodeling, but I'm feeling better about the exterior. The landscaping and backyard area is pretty much perfect.
