need kitchen island color advice

Hi. In the process of updating my kitchen and living room area. Below are the photos of how it looks now. The island paint color came out totally wrong. Want to go darker and moodier. Like a Merlot color but it came out super pink purple. Showing you photos of the living room as the rooms are next to each other for inspo. Going to replace the kitchen pendants and breakfast area light fixture to more modern. And switching out bar stools and breakfast area table and chairs as well. Breakfast table will be black and bar stools likely a cream pleather type of swivel look. What color do you suggest for kitchen island? Also going to add a ChatGPT photo for inspo.

    Paint it white.

I get the inclination to go bold and bright so you are trying to add pops of bold hues here and there, but the space looks cramped and your kitchen cabinet style versus your furniture is leaning eclectic. Add pops of color through decor, pillows, frames and glass vases. Burgundy, merlot, wine are all gorgeous colors. But when the chairs are covering the bar area anyway, might as well go with a white or cream sheen paint.

@beverly Here’s the custom window seat cushion

That’s what I was going for and ended up with that pink purple color. Thinking of going deeper maroon/merlot.

Agree with white - doesn’t seem like an area to highlight

The current color is Sherwin Williams Framboise

Instead of white, what about an alternative “neutral”. I feel like the kitchen is too white and trying to bring jewel or deeper tones in

The blue in the rug would be great for the chairs, or the island color, but I think white island and interesting chairs is better. @SF Interiors made the point well.
What about a pattern fabric for the chairs? Your rugs are beautiful and offer different colors to add to the decor.

    Darker colors

I think pairing it white is too much white. You have beautiful brown tones in the living area. A medium brown would be nice - check that it coordinates with the floor tone.

I like the suggestion of playing into and keeping the richness of the brown tones. Leaning toward a purple brown merlot color for the island. And going with brown tone woods for barstool legs and breakfast table.

Have you thought about stone veneer instead of paint? It might not be the first thing that comes to mind for a kitchen island, but a light-coloured stacked stone could add some nice texture. There are quite a few lightweight options around, including faux stone panels from NextStone and similar products. I'd just avoid anything too dark or heavily textured, especially if the countertops and backsplash already have a lot going on.

Sometimes less is more. I wood replace the paint with wood to match the floor or paint it white. Your place is lovely, the
Island base does not have to be the focal point.

I’m NOT a designer! But I do love color, so I appreciate your desire for color. I wonder if you’re also drawn to the depth the color seems to bring. The first CHAT inspo pic showed a dark wood island, not a “color”, per se, but you still used it as inspiration. So maybe a deeper wood tone might work as suggested by last poster. IMHO, When I look at the renderings with white or wall color, it seems to draw MORE attention to the island, and reads flat and uninspired to me.

BTW, I do agree with replacing the wood planks.

Not the actual fabric, but the color it appears to be. This also picks up one of the colors in the patterned area rug.
