Need Help with Kitchen!

First time post :) Need help with two areas in my kitchen. First is the shelving with the birds. Not really a "cutesy" person. Second area is space besides exposed brick. Don't want to put cabinets, as I feel this would box in the brick. All recommendations are appreciated.

Any ideas for the shelves with the birds?

I would consider installing wine racks above and below the counter to the right of the brick. Maybe something like this shape.
Where two birds are I would consider putting small white bowls, dishes, etc if there is room.

For the area next to the brick wall add a couple 3" recessed lights if you still can and add three glass shelves and display on them some funky objects, liquor bottles, and cook books. The area where the birds are needs to have larger and more colourful decrorative objects.

RH, for the shelves, what kind of decorative objects would you recommend?
A collection is a good idea, but I'd swap out the birds for something more culinary, unique salt n pepper shakers? Depression glass, butter crocks, tea cups? You get the picture?

Also, love the brick, why cover it with a picture?

Great space and I like your red accents. I think I might try moving the liquor to the right, over the wine rack and use the space above for the (clear) wine glasses etc. Move the more colorful things (the bird collection maybe) to the glass front cabinet. Use the open shelves for a collection but things that are a little taller than the birds. If you're not 'cutesy' look for old wooden or iron collectibles to place here--choose something totally unexpected and things that make you smile.

You have a great splash of red on your pendants, so select some colorful and stunning glass pieces to go on those shelves. It will be colorful, but sophisticated - far from "cutesy"!

    LOL- Duh?
Stagergurl, the brick looked bare without anything. You prefer it blank?
margo, you asked, I answered! Glad I could help you out on that answer! Now what would YOU put there margo? You always have good suggestions.
Kim, if I moved the Liquor bottles over, should I leave that area empty?
Margo, handymam is right-you always have great suggestions! What would you put there?

I'm listening :) I like the shelf with the wine bottles, very funky.

Probably not. . . maybe a glass container of limes, a couple of decanters, and/or other bar-related accessories. It's a great space

Those are very cool margo, though I would not bake a cake using them.

I like putting odd things on shelves like that for conversation.

I hope not handymam, might be kind of crunchy;)
I really like hour glasses, would you put a collection of hour glasses on the shelves, or mix with other items?
You would love my house then. It is one big conversation starter of odd things. :)
I prefer to mix things up. I am not a collector;)

I would probably put them all on one shelf and put some vintage timers I could actually use on the other one. Folowed by something weird like an old bottles or tins of THYME.

I am not really a collector either. The birds started out as a gift, followed by the rest, also gifts!
That is definitely a conversation starter, Margo! Love it.

Barbara, I have a hard time finding glass objects, I have no eye for such things. Any suggestions/pictures?
Yeah, and once people find out you have a collection, then that is all you get, and it becomes tiring LOL.
Margo, i liked the first one, but all the rest not so much.
    Any other suggestions?
I'm thinking more functional as well ... small glass storage jars filled with colorful string or jelly beans? A small pile of tiny colorful bowls ... a stack of cups/mugs? For inspiration:
