I really like the subway travertine tile backsplash. Is that what it is? Does "sealing" a rough service truly allow it to be cleaned? The kitchen can be greasy place even in places not behind the stove. ( Maybe the stone behind the stove and the travertine could be reversed to allow for easier cleaning)

Hello! Yes this looks like subway style travertine. The other by the stove called split faced stone tile. I have travertine backsplash and floors. Have to seal it before and after grouting. The regular travertine is easy to clean with the sealer on. Use a stain resistant grout. I was considering the split face also in my kitchen, but we really like to cook home made spagetti sauce :D
Probably the split face would of not stayed so pretty very long. :D
The split face tile will not need grouting. I would still seal it once or twice.
    Hope this helps.
