The limit of space is always a problem w mobil homes. A few general suggestions: keep the lines clean. No furniture with skirts, (sofa, chairs, beds). It permits the eye to travel further into your space. Same goes for window treatments; try roll up shades instead of curtains. Google "mid century modern" images. It should should provide a wealth of inspiration

Your walls may look better with white bead board panels or clear tongue and groove pine painted white. I would remove the dated wall paper in your bathroom with the same wall panels. You can bring out color with furnishings, accents, art, area rugs.

Nancy, also a thought for a wall transformation that gives you the look of bead board, but easy to install over your existing walls, very affordable and can be painted. It is a thick paintable wall paper by Doctor Wall or Martha Stewart that looks like bead board. Sold in Lowes or Home Depot. It comes white, can cover imperfections on the existing wall, or even covers the lines in paneling. I used it in my old cottage in a room with lumpy walls, left one room the white of the wall paper and another room painted. They looked great and made the walls look smooth. In your mobile, you could possibly use the money saved to put up some simple crown molding around the top, where the walls meet the ceilings. In my old house, I even covered up cinder cement blocks in a basement laundry room with this stuff, added crown molding and the room looked finished. It is a great product and gives big results. My contractor, who renovated my old cottage could not believe the walls in those bedrooms were not real bead board. Good luck. We also have a manufactured home in Florida, but luckily was all redone when we bought it.

One difficulty with many mobile homes is that the walls are a type of synthetic wallboard with commercial style wallpaper type coating. When these type of boards are painted, the paper covering can buckle.

I would Google information on how to deal with this, but definitely use primer with a low water content--oil or shellac based. Shellac based is thin and dries quickly, which could be a plus. It stinks and requires ammonia for clean up--buy a gallon of the lemon stuff just in case. You might want to test it out in a closet or someplace.

If it does bubble up, you can slit the bubble and carefully add a bit of glue with a tip of a steak knife and press it down until the glue holds. Then touch up

I have this sort of stuff in my rental, and it looks so much better painted, even with a few bubbles..

We have a manufactured home as well. The best way to update walls hands down is knock down! We have done several rooms and it gives a high end look with a low end price if you aren't afraid to do the work yourself. Floors are easily updated with a quality laminate hardwood floor. Add a nice trim & you will have quality results.
