Hi, so our block is side-ways and downward sloping and the current design is 2 storey at the front and single at the back. We want the living areas/kitchen and garage on the floor level at the back as close to the level of the yard as possible. Currently, this means anyone coming to the house climbs 8-10 steps to get to front door/ entry. Once they enter the front door (directly into the 2nd storey-rumpus, entrance, bedrooms and bathrooms), they would then need to descend an almost full flight of stairs to get to the kitchen/living room etc on the lower level.

Does this sound crazy? My dad thinks so but I am having a tough time being objective as I am so set on having the living rooms at the back and lower level.

I think we could drop some of the top story (to create a 3rd, intermediate level) to reduce the stairs to the down-stairs area but there is some storage and a powder room below that would necessitate a re-draw of the lower level to achieve this...currently, I cant see any other way to reduce all the steps.
