You might look for a wrought iron chandelier. There are a variety of designs available depending on your decor. The wrought iron is less likely to get damaged by pool cues and you can always keep a supply of light bulbs on hand in case they do get broken.

For a pool table you should look for something that is going to give you task light on to the table. One suggestion for something that would not hang down to far would be a directional rail. I have attached a photo of one. These come in all different styles but they are usually linear which are great for pool table and you can direct the light in any direction.
