Hi Jake! Beautiful shelves.

It is a pretty large wall so you could hang a piece of art to the left side of the wall & hang your shelves on the right side of wall, lined up vertically.

If you are getting the new table soon I would wait to hang everything so you can line it up with the new table.

I also like the idea of a staggered arrangement for your shelves. It will mimic the staggered upper cabinets to the right.

You could try hanging them so 2 are in column and 1 is next to it. the 2 shelves could have smaller things and the third could have taller item. You don't need to try to fill the wall with them.

ikdrew: Can you please give me a better description on how you see it on the wall on the picture? where would the two shelves be and the third?

This is what I was thinking in terms of my previous suggestion, But I would like to see the view of that wall from the kitchen area that shows where the table and chairs are in relation to it. Because your light is "swagged", it tells me something does not fit right. I am not sure that your shelves really work in the space.

I think your shelves would look best together in a single column, but not here, alone. They are too narrow in width. (Too small for the space, they would just be floating with nothing to "ground" them) I think if you could build something like this table I am posting, with shallow depth of no more than 12-18 inches deep by 4-5 feet width, you would have functional piece of furniture. Hang some art above it for color, maybe then use your shelves on one side above it, in a column. The framed art/whatever plus the 3 shelves should + the width of the table, no more.
You need to figure out where to put the dining table and use only 4 chairs if you can, rather than 6. It is hard to see what is there. the table looks round, if so, put the chairs on the diagonal, X, rather than a --l-- pattern, it will free up your wall at the end. Once you have the table set, then the hanging light needs to be centered over it with out the loop/swag. Please find a home for your trash can under the sink if possible. Your kitchen is so pretty to have that out in view. let me know if you have more questions. Move the chairs and take another photo for me :)

We would like to replace the glass table with something square or a rectangle table with 4 chairs or maybe 6 if possible. Something like an old barn type / rustic table. Knowing that, is rectangle table, will you put the table longest side of the table parallel to the wall or vertical? Btw, my wife loves your idea!!!

For a rectangle table, I think it should go parallel to the windows. Not enough room for 6 the other way

You can get a table with an extension, to use 6 chairs. Two of the chairs can be placed on the right and left corners of the shelf wall when the table is not extended. 6 chairs are great to have when needed.

Jake, you usually you need to follow the shape of the room unless it is extremely large. A rectangle would fit there with 6 chairs, parallel to windows as stated by LB. Is this your main/only dining area? The table, I posted the photo above, is for storage or display/serving, not as the dining table.

We have a formal dining area. This is more like a daily kitchen/dinner table that we all use. We have a high chair for our little one behind the existing glass table, which does not take up too much room. Sometime when we have a few guests, we use it, instead of moving into the formal dining area. Here are some of the things that we like from Craigslist. We don't want anything big, just enough to do the job and to look good in that space.

A breakfast set for the kitchen for 4 is a good size, since you have a formal dining. I like the dining sets. If you have large holiday or many large gatherings, maybe you want the extra seating in the breakfast room too, then maybe for 6. Whatever you think works best for you!

I like the table choices- I like the rustic wood ( nice contrast to your cabinets) as opposed to the one with the scalloped edge, which looks too cute-sy. the chairs too-especially the rounded back chairs with blue wall. If you buy 2 arm chairs (of the 4 or 6 total), you can always use them as extra seating in the LR or great room and they look nice with a small table in between by themselves. I am happy to help you as you are so interested in making positive changes to your home. That is what I love about decorating.

lkdrew: Thank you SO MUCH for your offer. My wife and I know which look we like, but I think, lack that sort of vision, because of not knowing the possibilities. With a birth of our son, we moved to a house from an apartment and would really like to make it a HOME!!!

Congratulations on your new son. I am sure your house will be a great home in which he can grow up. I will be happy to help you with new ideas or confirm your own as you go. I am constantly redecorating my own home as well as helping others. Sometimes it is about learning what does not work as much as what does. There is so much to see on this website and it seems that we all have opinions too. You can pull out what you like and leave the rest. If you find a that is expandable, that is helpful if you tend to entertain right there. I have a beautiful dining room that I re-did a few years ago and we still do not use it much. too bad.

Here is one of my favorite before and after of a kitchen. The "before" picture was staged to look worse than it really was for dramatic impact. The last picture is of the adjacent great room after it was being re-done. (Window treatments came later) I do real estate staging and decorating.

I have a feeling that many commenters may not like this table set but I happen to think it is very nice. Has style, is interesting, has nice detail and is different. If you like it, why not!
