Rug under kitchen table

I have a large kitchen and can be quite noise. I would like a rug under kitchen table. Need help with ideas. Paint color is a soft green. We just moved in.

Oval rug 4' wider and longer than the table will be perfect. Lighting looks contemporary and furniture looks country. What style are you going for?

The furniture is what we had at old house. Its a basic table and chairs The lighting looks painful to change. Big holes in ceiling. Just keeping it this way for awhile

Go for the final outcome you want and adjust lighting when you can.

Any ideas on decorating that huge wall? I wanted to do something that centers around family. We are big family people always having my parents and brother and sis in law over.

I would suggest a nice contrasting rug under the table and if you get a nice picture of your whole family with a good camera, there are places that will blow it up to poster size and bigger for a reasonable price. Have a crafty local artist paint you a wall mural with the family in it! I have some track ligting in my house. So adaptable. Could hang a lightweight center lamp and clip an adjustable flood light in each end that are aimed toward the wall!

I think a rectangular rug would be the best for this space.

This is a pretty indoor/outdoor rug at a great price for the size you'll need. I like that it adds another colors and pattern for your space. BTW..I'd consider at least painting the chairs more complementary with the hutch.

Since you have a large family, how about a bench for this side of the table and put the two chairs with the back to the wall? This one is a good buy at Home Depot. You can paint/stain the chairs to complement the bench and the hutch.

We aren't a big family. I was trying to say we value family and are family people. Always having family over.

Where is that rug from that you are suggesting

Darzy where would I find that rug you mentioned? Also oval or rectangular under that table? Thanks

Is there room to move the buffet/hutch to that bigger wall and fill it in a bit more? Then find a way to make the smaller wall work for the family feeling, which I love!

Abby jean. We did try it but it makes it harder to fit in the seat on that side. So frustrating because I hate working with such big walls.

You'll need a rug that's large enough so that the back chair legs stay on the rug when chairs are pulled out for entering or exiting the table. I'd go with a rectangle. You might look for an indoor/outdoor woven polyester that you could hose off--there are some very nice looking ones.

I think the cabinet needs to be centered on the big wall. The balance you're wanting will not be there with the cabinet where it is now. I understand that would entail moving the light fixture so it could be centered over the table. That may sound like a huge job but it wouldn't be for a professional. It might take a couple of hours--no big deal or expense. Then you'd have much more freedon to decorate and make the room look right. Otherwise, you're stuck with a big, plain wall and a cabinet crammed on a small wall that will throw off what ever you try to add to the large wall.

If you're unwilling to do that then find a location for the cabinet in another room. You'll still have a huge blank wall that you can't add furniture to because the table's in the way.

Is the cabinet centered on it's current wall? Maybe a rectangular rug so it will be large enough when the table is extended with leaves. A nice large painting on the large wall.

    Those are great aren't they! They're from Plow & Hearth. There's a 5 x 7.5 and a 9 x 13. Go with the 9 x 13.

Did you think about having your light moved so you'll have more room to move the cabinet?

    some good ideas,
measure the table and add 2 foot over hang overall that will add four ft to the circular area rug that is needed. Because of the little ones take that measurement and find remnant thats inexpensive but adds some pop to the area, binding the material to size shouldn't be a problem if the store does in house:) bring it together with the rest of the kitchen by having the waist (remnant) made into smaller rugs in front of sinks and doorway(S).

Move hutch to big wall. Get a 9x12 rectangle rug with color. You have a oak table and very modern lights change to a more traditional type. Rectangle and hang 36" from table top.
a floor mirror where hutch is now tall 6 ft with wide dark frame. Just lean on wall Ikea has nice one good price.
Add big bowl to center and add green apples.
Add a tall plant by slider in corner.
Lighting is ugly and not working. Not hard to change believe me. It will improve your space. Area rug in a print with color likes reds. Ck Ikea.
Hutch will work on that big wall you only need 20"behind chair.
Remove hanging light replace with track lights Lowes sells. Then you can move table away from big wall so rm for hutch. Solve 2 problems with Track lights.
    7x10 rug would work too.
Home Decorators (Home Depot online) has nice indoor/outdoor mats which would work great in that area (www.homedecorators.com ) and on the wall I would explore all the many options of phrases/words for walls and get a big one to transfer to the wall (www.wallquotes.com) get a really nice one for Family and Friends perhaps..and then maybe some nice framed pictures of family incorporated with the wall quote!

a square rug would be good it should be large enough so as to not be a tripping hazard. Color burnt orange deep, olive green or some muted Indian pattern would work.
Travis interiors. Does my track stay in the place and just buy different lights? Or do you have to move the entire track as well. Thanks. New to this.

    I appreciate all the advice
