Need Help Choosing Exterior Paint Color

We bought this house and love the classic elements. I would like to keep the house white; however, my husband feels it is too white. Any suggestions on a white that would work? Also, changing the front door. Any suggestions?

This is a beautiful home! Changing up the landscape can can give the entire home a different feel. I always tell my clients that landscaping will make or break the appeal of their homes. Some of these "plantation style" home have a muted lemon color which looks nice but most are the classic "white". Google search "plantation houses" to see some different options people have chosen. I would suggest keeping the white paint and updating the landscape (especially the grass). cleaning and staining the concrete would work wonders as well!

Thank you for the suggestion. I think my husband wants to keep it more traditional. We are in the process of cleaning it up. It has been sitting for about 5 years or so.

You are correct. People underestimate what landscape can do for a home. Luckily we own a landscape business. We have removed all landscape material at this point and will completely renovate. I have googled but you know how lighting goes. There have been several whites that I like then I get the sample and it just makes the house look dirty.

I would think a white that leans more towards they grey or blue scale would work better since the grey roof is contrasting the paint color. A white that has the red/yellow/brown hues would definitely seem more pronounced in this case.

I'm glad you removed the bushes in the front. They definitely don't work with this house. Post some "after" pics to show us the finished product. Good luck and have fun with the renovation!

GORGEOUS home!! White is perfect. I would look at the hues Benjamin Moore offers in their Historical Color collection.

There is a Dunn Edwards color called Limestone. It is a greenish-gray white and goes well with the dark gray roof. Keep the trim and columns a crisp white. I would replace the front doors with a solid panel door vs. the French doors, and also paint them along with the shutters a full gloss black.

Whites, light blues, yellows and grays would look classic on your classic home.

Mmilos is right, the very first thing to do is to replace the front doors with solid doors. It's funny, the French doors just don't do a thing for the bones of this home. The rest Mmilos' color scheme is spot on! Good luck, you have a treasure there!

Interesting mix of classic elements in this exterior, but whats needed is a classic garden to compliment a grand house. Keep the house classic white. Don't change the door, solid doors will block the light into the foyer. The ugly concrete has got to go, replaced with a circular drive perhaps, with a central feature ( fountain? ) and lots more lawn and shrubbery with color with make the house look its best. Invest in a landscape designer. See some examples below where it's the garden that maketh the house.

Beautiful home - love the white and know when you have the landscaping done it will be a beautiful study in curb appeal ! I love the idea of a pewter colored door, but that is just me.

too have a Greek Revival that I am wanting to add a little color to (Yours is a
real Greek Revival though, mine is an early 70’s copy, lol). I really
like the following photos that I found on Houzz. They add color to a
style that is normally black, white or grey but still keep the classic feel. If
you wanted to do just something minimum, painting the muntins (this is a fancy
word I just learned that means the window grids) black and painting the door
black, red or really any brighter color you may be surprised at the difference
it would make. Also in my research I have found that the original colors on Greek Revivals included Shutters that were a very dark green.
