Our 2 small dogs have started peeing on the carpet in the bedroom. Do you think a contemporary ceramic tile would be a good replacement choice. Or what? Thanks.

Dog training would be a better choice...

This is a case of trained female dogs who are old and one is also blind. We have tried everything and are just ready to find another way to cope.

You would be better off with some kind of sheet flooring. Since tile has porous grout joints you'll still have to deal with the smell.

Good point, I wondered about that but thought the sealing process would hold up. Can you name a brand of sheet flooring?

Target and Armstrong are the most popular I know of. I think you would need to re-seal the grout fairly often. Not worth the risk IMO. Would be a shame to have the same problem after costly installation. Vinyl floors can be had for as little as $3 sf so if you don't love the style you can replace them with hardwood or tile later.

my sympathies to you....i have been there too, hard to watch them slowing down. especially if they were trained and now they know they are doing bad. i took out the carpets and put down vinyl/ scatter rugs that you can hose off or throw away if need be and love them till its over. its only a floor.

Jewelgirl thank you so much, I am crying as I write this. You are so right . It IS only a floor. Thank you so much for your compassion. You are so kind.

I had a golden retriever that in his last months (November to March) became incontinent so I know what you are going through. I think the idea of vinyl flooring on your floor is the best solution. I remember seeing them in rolls at Home Depot and they were extremely cheap. I wouldn't do the tile in your bedroom because the grout will absorb and get under the tile..Put many throw rugs around that can be washed..For some reason my dog would make a mistake on the rug instead of the floor so it was easier to clean up..I think he thought it was grass..He was so old at the time..

you are welcome, sorry to make you cry tho. Home depot sells inexpensive flooring as do flooring stores....end of the rolls and they are usually tucked away in a corner or back room. theyd rather sell first price of course. Any chance you are in manitoba? there is a great place on archibald that is a great place. if money is an issue you can take out the carpet and seal and paint the plywood. Be creative,,,stencil......stamp or whatever. I agree with foreverhouse. if you have a small carpet down theyll go for that. Oh, hey, how about those puppy pad things to put on the floor? maybe theyd like that. good luck and my thoughts are with you.
