Help with Light Fixture Size

I have a 72" rectangular dining table that extends to 102". It will mostly be used unextended. I'd like to hang a round light fixture over the table but I'm unsure about the size. Any tips you can share about the proper dimensions of a light fixture based on table size?

Absolutely! Grab your measuring tape and get ready to take some numbers. For a fixture hanging over a table, the general rule of thumb is: measure the width or diameter of your table. Then subtract 12" from that number. That's the maximum limit for the width or diameter of a hanging light.
