What type of curtains would go with this rug?

I love navy blues! So i went ahead and bought a navy blue rug that i would like to pair with my dark chocolate sofa. My walls are a soft beige and i cant paint them :( but anyways, I want to have some type of pattern in the curtains as well but i am not sure what to do !

Also looking for a third color to put it all together! thank you

Here are some ideas for yellow floral drapes that I think would work...

If you search for blue, white, yellow rooms I am sure there is much to inspire you as well.

Not a fan of yellow but i love that print on the right hand corner!
    thanks!

Or keep going with the navy for curtains but in a smaller scale pattern? You can bring in your other accent color in pillows and accessories.
ohh stripes! i love that idea! in a deep navly as well?
Amy where are those curtains from?

We have a similar rug in our living room (ours has charcoal in it with the navy and white) that leads to dining room so we chose these for the large dining room windows. I'm not able to insert just the image so here is the link:

I'm loving Holzman Interiors and Amy's ideas here. To put it all on a slightly different spin, yes, the bold stripes in navy and white - I love that the scale is larger the nap the scale of the rug pattern - and bring in a bit or coral or orange with sofa pillows. These are from tonicliving.com. Lots to choose from on their site. Order just the pillow covers, then buy down inserts from Ikea - it will be way cheaper.

Here's some navy and chocolate accented with yellow, but drapes are soft and not intrusive.
And another with navy drapes which would bring the rug color up against your walls and be more dramatic since you can't get dramatic with the wall color.

I like Amy's ideas! You could always work with any pattern as long as you stick to the 'navy blue' for curtains, pop-color accessories could be reds, deep oranges, yellows (but you're not a fan of), or even gray :)

karemore55 my husband is not going to be a fan of yours because now I HAVE to buy that koi pillow sham and its all your fault! So stinking cool!!

wow! you guys are amazing! Thank you so much! I love the stripes, coral and maybe il do yellow too:)
Amy, Hey, I aim to please - but only the Poster! Most men just seem to be OK with a change only if it costs zero dollars lol! I don't think the pillows are much - very inexpensive, and great on-trend selection. The down inserts from Ikea are super cheap too!

Perrrfect!!! I will put all of this into play. I was scared to play with patterns and things but not anymore

have fun and post pics when you are done :)

You need to be very careful with navy blues. They're very hard to match and have undertones of green or red or just odd tints. Your rug is great, just stay away from more navy unless you can find a really good match. Love the picture posted by Holzman Interiors with the orange striped curtains.

Leelee, do you suggest i leave the curtains plain? like white curtains?
I found this! i love how it looks with the coral!

Coral and navy are beautiful together! One of my favorite combos but alas too feminine for our living room according to the hubby. I'm saving the idea for a girls nursery one day.
haha oh hubby will just have to deal with ti, he got his own man cave! haha girls nursery! that is a wonderful idea
  • 12 years ago
Oatmeal, would be a lovely accent for this time of year...you could still add oranges/greens etc. I like the color combination!

I like white curtains, too. Here are some that might work for you. Very simple and love the curtain rod. Hang them high and let them fall all the way to the floor. Do you have pics of your room?
simple works but please reconsider the use of tab tops
  • 12 years ago
    No tab tops, please.
Mrsramirez, Just want to warn about the coral - and believe me I love it - don't get too carried with it. A little goes a long way. Otherwise, the room will look "contrived".
thanks karemore, I will not. I will only use about 2 coraly pillows.
Hey i have the same rug!!! Goodluck, karemore55 has great ideas!

Work with the rug…a fabric with lots of white, next color navy and then a touch of brown.

This caught my eye because I have a similar entry rug, although it's black and creamy. I love the post with the fat coral and cream stripe! I'd imagine a solid dramatic accent color would look lovely, although I'm not a professional. I have cream on cream curtains, but my rug is not in the same room. You'll have to enlarge photo to see curtains. Please excuse Christmas decor. Did you choose a curtain yet?

westelm.com has a really pretty navy patterned curtain with yellows. But i prefer plain white!
Navy is my favorite color too! I pretty much have navy, or some shade of blue, in every room of my house. I love pairing it with creamy taupes, turquoise and greens--like the color of the houzz Submit button! I'm thinking about curtains for my open LR/Kitchen and keep coming back to simple floor to ceiling panels in navy ticking. I just ordered inside mount bamboo roman shades. DD just rolls her eyes and complains that it is boring...
I would keep your curtains simple...white...especially since you have blues and browns going on. I would tie the blues and brown together with the use of toss/accent pillows. The sales people at West Elm typically have great suggestions...Maybe check with them to see what they think, since you purchased the rug there.

When matching up fabrics remember the hierarchy system. Reference the picture to see what im talking about...

You can go with any solid curtain of course but if you are considering a print first determine where your current print fits in the hierarchy. From there you will either pick a larger print or smaller print.

This is a very old post, everyone.
You have brown blue and white already. I don't think you need another color. Perhaps some red or yellow accents. Best way to decide on curtains is to get swatches from a fabric store like calico corners. Don't be afraid to use a pattern. Floral or toile would go well as long as in the same colors. You won't know until you bring home samples. Take a photo of rug with you. Beautiful rug by the way. Brown and blue are beautiful together.
