Need help with exterior door color

We are just finishing building our forever home and we are stuck on the front door! The exterior is BM's Stormy Monday with White Dove on the trim. We are debating between stain or a bright color for the door and what colors of each would compliment the house best. Everything is on the table right now! Thanks!

I love your house and the door,I would do a darker stain with abit of a red undertone.

I am sure you will get good advice on color. However, I am distracted by your portico, which I feel needs another layer of trim boards running at the horizontal base, and a run of moulding applied to emphasize the triangle formed by the returns on its roof.

I would do black - glossy.

Are you intending to make the interior of the door a different colour than the exterior?

Oops! I think the steps should be much wider - they look skimpy! The walk should flare to encompass wider steps instead of the steps shrinking to accommodate the narrow walk.
What color are the darker bricks in your foundation? That might be a starting place to find a color for the door. I'd keep it rich and dark rather than popping it with a color that is too garish for the charming period style house.

The door would look great in your favorite, assertive color. We have a very similar siding/trim color scheme, and our door is a welcoming, but subtly vibrant terra cotta orange. Because the house is so neutral, it begs for a shot of color, and the neutral background sets off any color beautifully.

Btw--our house is a 200 year old limestone farmhouse--you can bring in color to a period house, but it has to be warm, not garish.

    Red all the way

We plan to do the same to the interior as we do to the exterior

A deep red and glossy black have been tossed around by us too so keep the comments coming!

Anything else design wise though we are happy with and past that phase of the build.

what did you decide? We are thinking of going with san antonio gray which seems very similar to your choice & white dove (with black shutters as well) and are trying to decide what to do with our fir door

This is someone forever house who asked about paint color for their door. Why do people make comments about things they can't change or haven't asked to have changed. Imagine just finishing your dream home while having a bunch of people tell you what you should of or could of done.

    i agree - a vibrant red!

Benjamin Moore wythe blue. It's a restoration aqua color and will look soft against the gray on the body.

We are about to paint our house and Stormy Monday was in the running for paint choices. This photo helped us decide on using it because we also have an almost black roof and similar landscaping. Your house is beautiful and the paint looks lovely! I am looking at navy blues for our doors. What did you end up choosing? I would love an update :)

Dark grey, but why not change the color of the door more often. you can try red at once.
