Would the storage unit go where the rollable drawers are right now?
If you are on a budget, Ikea has these nice units.
I have seen people spray paint them to suit their decor. They come in different configurations and would correlate to your black windows at the moment and give a nice contrast to your supplies and easy access, besides the happy price point.

I would create a low counter that also acts like a table top (think kitchen island with storage and shelves beneath). This will allow you to enjoy the light without cutting it out. I would place it at least two flagstones inwards so the perspective still allows for light to enter. This is guesswork based on what I can see from the photo but might help.
