Martha: Thanks so much for needing our help! I think your goal is to try to make this look less like a "garage conversion" and more like an "original extension of the house", yes? In that case I would do a windowed inset like Dar's photo of guest/pool house (although perhaps without the mullions, depending upon the window style of the rest of your house), and stain/paint the surrounding woodwork to match. If you want to, in future, market this as a separately accessible office space for a work at home professional, include door/s and a pathway out to the main walk. If not, and if not required by code, I'd do the whole inset as windows. I would remove the brown pad in front of the garage door in its entirety, and replace with a small tree, landscaping and landscape lighting, provided that still gives you a good path to the front door of the house.
