Pocket Door or Single French Door to Office

I have a feeling I will be posting many more questions, but this one is about the entrance door (internal) to our home office. The plans have a pocket door, but I'm considering a single French door. This will be an office for us, but could also be a formal living room. I like the idea of a pocket door, as it's a craftsman house, but perhaps it would be nice to do the French door as something more formal. Thoughts and opinions?

A french / swing door is more functional if you are going to be opening and closing the door a lot compared with a pocket door.

Why don't you install a french style pocket door.

The room is not particularly big. A swinging door will limit your furniture placement options (because you need room for the door to swing). So, I'd say to keep flexibility, go pocket (and a pocket French, as has been suggested by others, would be charming and adds something of a surprise when pulled out).

How about a sliding barn type door that goes against the wall in the study? It doesn't have to be rustic if that isn't your style, you can do it with any style of door but the hardware attaches to the wall. Pocket doors are nice (if you don't need to open/close too often as was stated) but when something goes off track/breaks etc. they are REALLY hard to fix and you have to break through the wall to get to the hardware.

I have a couple of pocket doors in my house and they've been trouble free for 25 years.Would a swinging door block the window? If so I would do a pocket door and a french one would be very cute.

Viva la France
( hard to get pocket door hardware that is easy to operate over the years )and door would only stick out max 20" also when open or closed adds more detail to the room

After looking at your plans again i would go for the single french swinging door. I lived in a house that had one right off the entry and it added a lot of charm and a sense of separation. Plus it would visually enlarge your foyer.

A swinging french pocket door (right hand swinging into the room) can comfortably stay open against the wall or be closed easily. Interference with furnishings will be minimal and look more inviting than a pocket door.

One thing to consider with a pocket door is a lack of privacy (sound). I would agree with splagna above . A french door can also be complimented with nice hardware whereas pocket door hardware is typically crummy!
