Should I keep this backsplash or update to something else!? If so what would you do?
Comments (9)What's off with this backsplash is that the granite back splash is not appropriate if you are tiling a backsplash. It should have been removed and the backsplash tiled all the way down to the top. If you had more tile and grout you could pull off the granite backsplash and tile down to the top and it would look great. Certainly if you are going to re-tile do it down to the top the next time. Personally I would keep the tile simple since the cabinets and tops are traditional - Oak cabinets and Uba Tuba granite. I would use a tumbled marble subway tile. I think it looks better to keep styles appropriate to each other and not for instance use glass tile with such a traditional cabinet and top....See MorePoll! What would you do? Stain it or keep it?
Comments (5)I THINK that I have decided to stain it a medium brown transparent. The problem is I can't seem to find an exterior stain that is a neutral medium brown...all the samples I have tried are either too orange or way too dark. It is rough cedar so very porous and stains apply much much darker, saturated than smooth wood. Dods anyone know of a stain that will show up as medium light brown on rough cedar? Comments (92)Much better. The red-toned cabinets and red-toned floor were in conflict. This is lighter and fresh....See MoreWhat would you do? Keep or change this master bathroom/closet?
Comments (9)one larger instead of two small ones that don't work well? lol. not many homes have two master closets. don't know if you saw on mine, but the large master closet I did is just mine. the old bathroom got turned into a smaller closet for my husband. technically we both could have used the larger closet. It all depends on how you organize the closet. I used Calif Closets. they weren't cheap, but they maximize all the space to give you the best organization possibilities. So, if going to one bigger closet, then make sure you utilize all the storage space 100%. don't cheap out on it if you're worried about resale. maximize every inch. plus, having a bigger shower area is so much better. are both your closets equal? lets say your left one is smaller. I'd remove the major wall, and remove the wall into the left closet. move your shower/toilet into the left closet, and keep part of it's current space. Redo the right closet to take up the other half of the current shower space. Put in a pocket door which will give you more closet space on the door side. figure out your square footage in the new closet space and figure out where all the storage will fit. you saw mine, right? it's 7' wide by 11' feet long (give or take) here was mine after husband did the rough framing (we did most of this ourselves btw) you can see the full length and width in this shot. now, walking in the doorway, taking a step to the left and looking towards the right: on the other end is a similar shoe rack and other storage the cabinet straight on is a ton of drawers on the lower, and bag storage for upper. So, showing you all of this, is it possible the both of you would be able to make something like this work? and maybe you don't want bag storage. you could make this anything else. plus, if you have a dresser in your bedroom, that's where you could easily store underwear, socks and items like that. We have ample storage! I have a dresser in the bedroom that's practically empty....See MoreBarnhart Gallery
