Cornices are kind of a dated look right now. What I would do is install one continuous rod over both the window and the door. I think it would look best if you had 3 panels - one stacked next to the fireplace, one stacked in-between the window and door, and the other on the far right of the door. These should be wide, generous panels. Since you are planning on actually using them (as opposed to just having then for decorative purposes) you want each panel to be minimally 1 1/2 times the width of the area it will cover, i.e. the left panel should be 1 1/2 x the window, the left panel 1 1/2 x half the door and the far right the same. The panels you have currently are much too small. Just hang the panels on nice, simple rings. I would go with a black or very dark bronze finish to pull in the fireplace color as well as the dark color in the fabric. You will be amazed at how much higher your ceiling looks and how much taller the windows look when using drapery panels. Hang your rods almost at the ceiling line.
