In the natural stones, Granite is much more suitable for kitchen counter tops. Although I have seen many beautiful marbles that I would love to have used in that application .......marble is, indeed too porous and can stain. It is good on vanities, shower surrounds, tub decks and aprons.

I want the carrara marble look...any suggestions on granite that is similar in color?

A couple of suggestions. If you are willing to go with a man made quartz product, Cambria offers a Carrera look-a-like. In natural stone (granites) you might like "Kashmir White" or "Bianco Montanha" and "Bianco Gioia". Picture below or in order listed. Good Luck!

I just went through the same thing; thought I wanted Carrera marble until I found out how difficult it would be to maintain. The other day I went to a few of the granite suppliers in my area, as suggested by our KD and I was amazed at the choices available. Do yourself a favour and go and look at some slabs. I assure you that you will find something you love. Just be sure to have some samples of your cabinets and flooring with you.

We have run into this situation many times in the past with our designs. Recently we have been using a hard to find Quartzite , natural not man-made, for about $35.00 retail. It has more gray in it than the beloved marble but it will endure well beyond the other materials as it is already many thousands of years old.

I have all marble countertops. All white. I have had them for 5 years now. Please do not be afraid of marble. I sealed them after they were installed and have no stains. And I use my kitchen. Big family, love to cook. Not red wine, red sauce, blueberries, coffee, cranberry, balsamic vinegar, nothing. Just sealed it really well after install. Then again in 3 weeks. Then again in 3 months. After that, once a year. I love them and would do it again in a heartbeat. And everyone tried to talk me out of it. I did go with honed instead of polished. Love, love, love them.
