Not a fan of the big box store kits. They also sell the concrete floor products - that fail even inside the store with no car driving on them....

If you decide to paint - here's how to brush (let me know if you want info on spray - much harder and need more equipment...):

1) Remove hardware
2) Scrub everything with TSP - or TSP substitute (from the paint isle at Lowes)(If you use real TSP, rinse a couple of times with a clean rag and keep changing the water).
3) Once dry, Sand every surface by hand - 180 to 220 grit
4) Vacuum sanding dust off
5) Prime with water based Zinsser 123, or oil based Kilz - always brushing with the grain
6) Once dry, Light sanding - to remove any drips, sags, or runs. Spot prime if needed on any exposed areas.
7) Vac again
8) Tack off with tack cloths (paint isle again)
9) Brush with Benjamin Moore Satin Impervo in the color you want. I start by painting the back of the doors first, then when dry, turn over and paint the front: Start with the recessed section around the center panel, then the center panel, then the outer frame. Paint all face frames and interiors if desired. By the way - I really like Sherwin Williams ProClassic - but it is designed to spray - they add anti-sag elements that make a mess if you brush it. Ben Moore Impervo can be made to look like spray if you do it fast and apply multiple thin coats. You can also add extenders (Floetrol or Penetrol) - ask the people at the paint counter. What ever you do, do not use the (wood & trim) paint from Home Depot or Lowes for kitchen cabinets. Yes, they sell "wood" paint - but it's not the same. And yes - you can make it work, but the Pro's use Ben Moore Impervo...
10) Before reassembling, get new felt dots for the backs of the doors and drawers - the doors and drawers will try to stick to freshly painted face frames. Felt dots (from Lowes - hardware isle) will prevent them from touching.

It's a lot of work, but it can be rewarding. I did my first kitchen 14 years ago and it still looks as good as the day I did it. (But be careful - you may not like where it takes you! We have painted more than 50 kitchens since!)
