As a realtor, I know people like at least one tub. However, there is a growing trend to go tub-less.

The short answer is - it depends. if your long term goal is to stay in your home then you should do whatever your individual preference is. If you intend to sell the home in the short to medium term than it would be best to have a tub. By no means does the master bathroom need to have a tub - there it would be best to follow your vision of a well designed, functional bathroom that works for you. A tub in a secondary bathroom would b fine.

Even though most of us shower rather than bathe in a tub, I think all houses need to have at least 1 tub.

I have been doing more projects recently where the master bath is shower only though and there is a tub in one of the homes shared baths.

Because most of us don't know the preferences of our overnight guests, I would recommend having at least one tub. I wouldn't want family and friends to choose to stay at a hotel or decline invitations to come for visits because they don't like showers or they have children who are not old enough to shower.

I pulled out the tub in my master bath to put it an oversized shower and added a stall only to a former powder room , but kept a shower tub combo in a newly redone hall bathroom. I imagine I will only se it to bathe our dog on occasion, but I thought it was important for resale.
