It depends on her personality, too..The headboard color is really nice. It goes with light gray, but if she prefers something more lively, I would try a different color. I'll try to find something more lively.

She likes the sophisticated look...she is the oldest child and doesn't want a teen or baby room anymore. I love these ideas! I was just afraid of too much dark colors, but I think most of these would work!

Stay in same color tone as headboard which is nice. A great color to go with is grays. In bedding with accent color as headboard. Night stands could be mirrored if she wants a glam look. Then add bling, in lamps and accessories.

Paint color go gray with purple undertones. They can mix anything.

In the ex samples above, note gray walls. A great look.

This wallpaper is very glam! I would paint the ceiling the same aubergine as the headboard. The bedding is very lush with all the different textures and colours. Definitely a silver chandelier to add some sparkle! All from Overstock (except for the wallpaper). Mouse over images to enlarge.

Love Margo's bedding. Not to over powering. Could do accent wall in headboard color like by the window. With dark gray woven fabric panels on a brush nickel rod. Use reflective item in room to bring in the glam. Keep walls very simple. Art with purple in them would work black or silver frames.

oops...young woman's mother struggling with a purple room for her. Everyone seemed to think white furniture, but I was either taking an antique and distressing it black and decoupaging the front drawers in some fabric or paper...maybe a French toile with the aubergine accents. Is that just too many different ideas going on at the same time? Or maybe do a cracked glass mosaic top? Any thoughts? I will try to upload some pics of my ideas too

I love the glass. The fabric is nice and it has the right shade of purple. I'm just not sure if the design goes with the bed.

That's my worry too. If I choose that fabric, I would have to choose a different bedding. I just love the fabric though. It's about a 5 yard remnant of a very expensive material that I can get at a fraction of the cost and it would tie in the aqua that my daughter wants to use as an accent. What do you think about the furniture color if I went this route?

I'm trying to visualize this fabric with the bed and other furniture that you might have there...with the velvet headboard, I would picture either white furniture or mirrored one. The bedding and pillows should be shades of purple and you can have the blue glass for accents. I know what you mean regarding the fabric (tying in the aqua)..it's the model that throws me off..the model would go well with an Indian theme,,Moroccan even..you could go that route if you want and it would work...just my opinion..Hopefully others come with other ideas.

I love the 2 color paint idea with a stencil. It definitely sounds like a job for a pro...not diy lol!!! That's okay because it would be just one wall. I don't think that could be too expensive...?

I also like the way the Martha's Vineyard picture uses different shades of purple and it looks really good together. Maybe because there is a lot of white in it? Trying to match shades of purple seems almost impossible. This has so inspired me!

Post the pictures of the paint samples! I love Lydia's ceiling fan with the chandelier. I know fabric collects dust and it might look too heavy, but would you consider using the fabric as a wall covering since you can't wallpaper? Would there be enough fabric to use behind the headboard? I don't know if a drapery rod would be strong enough to hold up the fabric across the expanse, though.

Post the pictures of the paint and its name. You could get paint chips in different shades of purple and see which ones work best together. That can be used to purchase the bedding, pillows, accents. As for the wallpaper, you could use paint to do that. I saw online those stencils that could be used,,here is a link http://rollerwall.com/patterns.html

actually, stenciling isn't all that difficult. roll the wall the background color just like normal, and then once it's dry, mark the center portion of your wall with a light pencil mark, and also mark a level line.

the back of the stencil may or may not be sticky, but either way, keep a can of repositionable spray adhesive around so that you can "resticky" the back as needed.

use a drybrush technique, and you can even use a roller, as long as you don't use much paint.
the stencil will have registration marks on it, so that you can get it tiling the right way. make sure you wipe off the back of the stencil before repositioning, in case any paint got stuck on the back.

it's time consuming, but really not difficult at all.

Here is the paint card that I think I like best. The dark purple is the headboard swatch from UO...I think the other color cards I got were too purplish and my daughter might outgrow it very quickly

I was thinking of doing the whole room in the 3rd from left, excaliber gray, and then doing the stencil over it with the leftmost color, heaven, but the stencil only behind the headboard. I would appreciate any brutally honest comments as I am very color challenged!

i would flip the colors. so do the lightest as the base, and the stencil in the darker.

What about doing a stencil 'wallpaper' effect. You can paint the base color then using a glaze in the same color for the stencil.

Cutting Edge Stencils (online) has some great stencils! The have a line of Morrocan stencils among many others. Draft your daughter into helping you!!
