I know it would be a pain to do, but how about moving the one in the dining room to the LR just to see what you think of a beige rug in there? Your DR rug has enough beiges in it and it has the offset squares and rectangles to give an idea about geometrics.

Actually this rug used to be in the living room area. When the family room addition was built a few months ago I moved it into the dining room to see if I liked it there, and I do. Years ago we had a beige textured rug in the living room. I’m just afraid a solid beige, without some design to complement what’s in the dining room, may be too plain…but maybe not? Thanks for your suggestion.

As hard as it is for me to believe (having lived through the '70's), shag rugs are back in a big way. While not as wildly varigated as they were in the '70's, the new ones have subtle shading that adds lots of texture and are much more interesting than a solid color. I'm actually working up my courage to show an off-white and gray rug to my hubby for our living room.

can you give us a picture of your living room please? I think that will help us choose your options.

Have spent 2 days looking at rugs on the Internet in Australia. Can find any kind of rug if look hard enough. Look under modern rugs in each firm's site.

I don't know what color your LR furniture is, but if it won't clash, how about picking up that rwine color leaf shape in the rug? Or, if you're going with the neutrals, a geometric pattern in taupe and beige. There are some nice ones out there right now.

Thanks Willa. I do want to stay neutral. I like your idea for taupe and beige, or beige on beige in a geometric pattern but haven't been able to find anything I like. Where are the "nice ones" you've seen?

I've been looking for rugs on the internet the past few weeks and there's a lot out there. Try rugs direct.com. I think they have a vast selection at good prices. The last rug I bought I ordered from there and I have been very happy with it. Some of the discount places have pulled a switch on me in the past, sending a rug that looked nothing like what I thought I had ordered, but that's not the experience I had with that website. There are probably others equally good, but that's the one I've used in the past. And I've also had a good experience with a rug from Wayfair, which really had astonishingly low prices.
