I love claw foot and platform tubs but that is an odd placement for it for sure. Sorry I don't have any suggestions. I suppose you will just have to make the best of it until you wish to renovate or save money to you can at least rearrange things. Best of luck

Take out the shower and put the tub there then art a shower to the tub

It's hard to see without more pictures, but maybe you could use a screen to block off the toilet or shower. ??? Maybe you could put this right behind the tub so it makes your vanity and toilet in another part of the room. Boy, this is a tough one.

Ok, I think somehow you need some separation of the toilet. I know the pic I'm posting is of a larger bathroom, but if you could get a screen that sort of separates the toilet from the rest of the room it might help. () Then, I would paint my room a modern grayish color like Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter () And then put an oversized piece of artwork on the wall facing the foot of the tub. And then,,,,,LOTS of white towels!

Oh yeah,,,I would keep your trim white.

Thank you for the suggestions. We can't remove the tub. It's the only one in our house and we have children who use it. We thought about big pictures on the long blank wall and like that idea. But we aren't sure what would work.

For paint, the previous owner had it Steele grey and we took it dins to linen white to try and soften it. But we have revere pewter in our living room. That's a great idea.


For towels, where do we put them? That's the other problem.

I think the design was that you could look out the window while soaking in the tub.I agree there is a mismatch of style. For a quick fix and leaving everything in place, I would suggest painting the cream walls with a warm pale grey or silver revere pewter. This will incorporate your blacks and whites of the shower tiles, tub and floor.For the vanity I would paint it a mid grey to make it more retro modern. The dark dominates the room and you need to even it out visually. For the space at the back you might consider adding some floating shelves about the width of the bath and roll up towels and squeeze them in. Space saving, functional and attractive. Finally, I would suggest finding a small table on wheels that you can place a tray on to put near the bath for throwing towels, reading books and candles etc....I am intrigued by the return behind your toilet and wonder if you could gain more space by moving the chassis into the wall. But this is a bigger project and you might wish to wait for a total renovation before partially fixing something.

I would find a nice soft color for the walls. I think the white isn't doing the room justice.

If there is enough room, I would install a towel bar on the long wall and a piece of art above it.

It's an odd floor plan but just try to embrace it. Your kids will have fond memories of that awesome claw foot tub that they're using as a swimming pool!

floating shelves are shelves that have no visible supports. very modern and clean.

it's really unfortunate that you can't even push the tub closer to the window wall.
at least that way you'd have more room to walk past it. right now it looks like there's barely any.

We thought about moving it, but the plumbers quote for moving the pipes was high. Right now they are between tub and window And we would have to retile. At that point we'd rather gut it.

i'm not very familiar with freestanding tub piping. it's not something you could get like a 36" flex line for and grab a bunch of strong friends to help you push it to the window, is it? i wouldn't want you to scratch the tiles, though. >:[

i really know almost nothing about freestanding tubs.

What great comments! When I looked at your initial photo, what came to mind immediately was somehow mitigating, or blending, all of the different styles. The blinds on the windows, in particular, seem pretty harsh in comparison to the rest of the finishes. Perhaps soften with plantation shutters or drapes,which would also provide a nicer backdrop for the tub. When you are ready for a more thorough redo, you might consider placing the tub within a larger shower enclosure - a more modern take, but the contrast could be lots of fun with the old fashioned tub.

Could you maybe try a screen at the head of the tub? Like this one

I love the ivory color on the walls. That's what I'll be painting my bathroom with the white trim. It's fun because you can throw any color of towel, candle, or even flowers and it will look beautiful.

Thanks everyone. I'm scared a screen by the tub will further narrow the pathway from the door to the sink. There's only about a foot at the most between the tub and the wall.

I'm going to add shelves and change the blinds out. Hopefully that helps a little. Thanks do much. I will take all the feedback I can get !
