I love your color choices! I've been admiring both the white and gray kitchens I've been seeing on Houzz. Unfortunately, it's not time to change out my dark wood cabinets... But when the time comes, I will have a hard time choosing between the two as well. We have a busy household with 2 kids in college, 2 in high school, 5 cats and 2 dogs (fortunately the horse doesn't come in the house!), so I'd be concerned about white too, particularly for lower cabinets. I might consider gray on the lower cabinets with white on the uppers. I'll see if I can find some photos of that.

The choice for me would depend on the windows in your kitchen and the natural lighting it provides. I don't think you can evaluate this based on which color you like in a showroom...but rather how that color works as a whole in your house. Also, what is the feeling in the rest of your house... light and airy? I personally don't like the grey kitchen shown here. I think the beige tinge in the floors makes the grey approach look dingy instead of crisp. Slate floors would make this choice gorgeous. Same with the brown chairs. The white here is more of a total pleasing look and concept and it works with the available light.

I had also thought about using grey in my island, then white everywhere else.

There is going to be a lot I natural light. So grey could work without creating too dark of a feel.

I have come around to liking grey, but it will date the kitchen. I don't think white cabinets are all that hard to keep clean. If you do the island in grey and it seems outdated after a while, you will have infinite choices for a relatively small retouch job.
