Agree with indianpatti. Do NOT follow a trend, unless you really like it and know it will outlast trendiness for you!

Forget about the "trend". Trends are created by the retailers to sell stuff. Without trends everyone would be happy with what they have and not spend money they don't have to in order to be trendy. Put in floors that you like, not what some retailer wants to sell you.

As far as the Asian Walnut, there is no such thing. It is Acacia, not even in the walnut family. Retailers have been making up names lately in order to sell wood. Asian Walnut, Brazilian Cherry, etc. are all made up names for woods from other areas of the world and most of them not even related to the American namesake.

We agree with all of the above comments. Don't concern yourself too much about trends and go with what you love, because at the end of the day, flooring doesn't get changed often. Light floors and dark walls would look great. It is a striking combination. You should post pictures when you are all done so we can see the results!

You will living with it for a long time. Find what you like! Take a bunch of sample home with you and try each one out next to the wall, under a window, in a darker area, etc. to get a feel for how each one appeals to you. Forget trends!

Light takes less daily maintenance. Dark shows every thread, speck or sprinkle.

I like the look of dark floors. They look classier to me somehow? Maybe its because you need to have a maid to constantly keep them clean! But with dark walls, definitely a lighter wood. Ive seen some amazing combos that look really great.

I think it depends on your home, your lifestyle, your housekeeping because dark is going to show dust etc faster than light floors.

I personally prefer a medium to light tone, but I also like a lot of wood exposed (minimal area rugs). Dark has a more classic feel in some homes, so a lot depends on your decorating style. Others are right about the dark showing every spec of dust. If you will also use an area rug, then it doesn't matter as much, and the rug can pick up the colors of the room. In summary - get what you like, but also think about what furnishings you will have and how they will look together.

Go with your gut feeling. I prefer light floors because of my three dogs and everything that comes in with them. I think they show scratches less also. And, they can make the room see larger. We just had the red oak floors refinished in our future retirement home and we went with a Bona natural satin finish. We love their looks. But, what ever you do don't follow a trend, because trends change quickly and with a floor, you're kind of stuck with it.

I would not recommended Brazilian cherry because it is red in my opinion.And it doesn't matter on trend it is what you like so pick what ever.

Acacia can be busy, a stain on it will tone it down a bit. (also make it darker)

Dark floors look great -- but show dust very easily. Go with your gut and don't follow the trends (unless you think you might be selling your home in the near future -- then you may want to consider trends). Good luck!
