T and G applied horizontally. - Any special detail or treatment to prevent water/moisture from sitting in siding joints (beween tongue and groove) and enabling mildew, rot...requiring added maintenance?

Good question. There is some risk of water sitting on the horizontal portion of the 'tongue' side but it hasn't proved to be an issue. Cedar has natural decay resistance and the owner keeps the siding well-maintained. These days, we install wood siding on a rainscreen to help the siding dry out on the back side. Thanks for asking. For horizontal applications a shiplap joint prevents water from collecting in the groove. T&G is more effective in a vertical application. Also, tongue side would be installed up if you were using T&G horizontally.

Question: It looks like you used a different stain for the walkway as you did for the walls. What stain brand/color did you use for the little walkway? Thanks.

What method was used for fastening the T&G? There does not appear to be nails or screws on the face of the boards. Thanks.

Is it possible to pull off this look on my home? I love it! We're in desperate need to redo exterior but I'd love to be able to keep some of the existing siding. Could I do the color of this house with the reddish roof I have?
