these are white oak cabinets. from my recollection there is just a natural finish on them. The cut on the oak is important. We chose a fairly vertical grain oak - 1/4 sawn I believe. I suggest you work with your cabinet maker to get stain samples on the actual wood that you are going to use.

didnt see a response to following q - Microwave - How did you get the microwave to sit insides 12" deep cabinet? Is it built into the wall? Also, is it a standard microwave shelf with no trim kit? 2

It is difficult to see in the picture - but the microwave opening is deeper than the cabinet above (sticks into the room more). Look closely at left side of microwave and compare to left side of cabinet above.
