Thanks for your reply. They match the two bedroom doors in the hallway outside the bath. I just didn't like the birch doors in the bath with the gray/ black and white. Do you think it would Be ok to at least paint the closet door? I plan to put up a different window treatment.

I love it. I used black and white tile in my bathroom almost 17 years ago when I remodeled it -- I did it wanting to recreate the old look of the NY City apartment I grew up in. It is classic and I still love it. I painted my walls a dark green and used Swiss coffee on the ceiling and the trim. All Benjamin Moore paint, an egg shell finish. I have a pedestal sink and white ceramic tile on the floor. It's classic. Go dark on the walls and white on everything else.

Just a comment, if you paint the doors and cabinets: use a top coat of polyurethane because we all know paint chips... I just stripped and refinished my bathroom doors for this very reason... I think you could get away with staining the door and frame a deeper color over painting it.

The tile is beautiful and historic, if you are keeping the countertop, then I would go with a dark grey or black for the cupboards and paint the doors and trim white. The walls could be a different shade of white than the doors though to give a contrast. If you have the budget this black and white mosaic floor tiles would complete the look ;)

Thanks everyone. I am replacing the countertop with Onyx Collection in winter. It is white with a black fleck. When you walk through the pocket door the 66" sink is on the left. The closet is on the right then the tub. I will paint the cabinet black per everyone's advice. Still very uncertain about the closet door. I can not paint the outside of the pocket door as it matches the two bedroom doors in the hallway. Maybe it would be best to leave them the natural birch the are. Thanks again for your replies.

I understand what you mean. You have 3 options for the doors then. 1. Paint all of the doors white (even in the hallways) and change the knobs to these beautiful black ones from Emtek.
2. Leave them and only paint the closet door white. Or 3. leave them all.
Personally I would paint them all and switch the door handles and hinges, will make a HUGE difference!

Minwax makes an ebony colored stain. Perhaps it's because I just took off the white paint from my blue 1960s bathroom doors because it started to look dirty, dingy, and chipped...

Paint all the woodwork and the cabinets white enamel. I'd do all the woodwork in the house white.

Thanks so much for your post and ideas. I can't paint the hallway door s do to the whole house has beautiful oak woodwork and oak wood windows with beveled glass panes in them. Except the hallway to the bath an two bedrooms. They are still the original birch. I am leaning toward the black cabinet and painting the closet door and frame white. And leaving the pocket door natural birch. Will be putting a two inch blind over the window with a valance in some pattern that will include black white and gray. Thanks again for your help. Any more suggestions? They would be very much appreciated.

Any updates on this? I realize the post is very old. I have a grey and black bathroom as well and am looking for ideas. I actually need to purchase some replacement tiles and am not sure how to tell if it will be the right grey.

Hello, I did put up the 2" white blind in the whole house. And changed the sink /counter top. I still have done nothing with the oak vanity or doors. The reason for the black tile around the bottom is I could not find matching tile. Don't like it at the bottom!
