Farmhouse or traditional kitchen?

I am moving into this house in a few weeks, just trying to work out which style this is more like. Also trying to work out if we should look at getting an island or just have a kitchen table. The room is about 5x5.4m (16.5'x17.5'), and has a balcony off to the left of the photos.

This is a good size kitchen. Looking at the cabinet doors, looks like they have a curve in them. You could take this element and turn this into a charming French country style kitchen. What ever table you decide on I would turn it the other way infront of the patio door, leaving space for traffic in and out to the balcony, so when in use for eating everyone on either side can see the view. With a little furniture and lush plants and flowers on the balcony you would be dining in front of a pretty garden setting. Would definitely incorporate an island. From photo appears you have lots of space. Like the fact that it is all black and white (black in the flooring). You are wide open to introduce a color scheme. What is your view ? So much potential here, wonderful space.

could you orientate your table the other way and add a moveable island which you can use for food prep

My moveable islan is 28 X 37 with 3 large drawers on casters
I use to prep food - serve food - do baking - cut material - iron - all kinds of things -make lunches

Is this table staying or are you looking a something different - if you are colored leather chairs would add some much needed color -red with some black would look great here or carribean blue + lime green

If you had a counter height table you might be able to use it for both

The table is actually the one from the previous owner, our table & buffet unit is this... The table is a family hand-me down so could be replaced when we find the right fit.

Islands are good if you need more storage or appliance space. Tables are good if you like to sit down when peeling things etc.

Which may make this a decision for after your kitchen goods are stowed. The space is certainly much more open without an island, so if one is needed, I like play's idea of a rolling station that could be moved or folded when not in use. You might also look at a freestanding cabinet piece on the long wall, if storage is the only issue being addressed.

Wow. That is different. Traditional cathedral door style and backsplash; but modern in layout and color... I have honestly never seen cabinet door cut like those flanking the range. I don't think that this IS a style. It's a hybrid. Very curious. It looks to me like you have enough counter space and space in general to keep the table in the room.

Mean Design, look closely I think the curved top is on all upper and lower doors, can't tell about drawer fronts. I have seen this a lot in northern east coast.

fos5 I can see the cathedral door style is on the wall and base cabinets. I wasn't referring to the rarity of cathedral as a door style on kitchen cabinets, I was referring to the two base cabinets that are on either side of the range; they are cut.

Looks contemporary to me - I'd definitely consider am island with seating if the space will allow - best of both worlds -

I'm not quite sure what we are going to make of it yet!

In terms of the kitchen I have a freestanding buffet unit that will be against the wall (for now at least!) and am leaning towards a dining table and no island.

We decided that we are going to get a whole new dining setting, so any suggestions are welcome.

I'm also thinking of trying to plant some herbs, lettuce and small vegetables on the balcony, but not sure how well they will go due to the position.
