Your house has a modern style, but not your furniture. Entry table could be changed to something simpler, and a rug with a simpler design, maybe grey like vase. For organization a bench that is open underneath for shoes to be tucked under. If you need a place to hang coats, see pictures for something with hooks.
If there is wood under carpet stairs, I would pull up carpet, and add a simple runner.

Light bulb just went off. A PAX freestanding wardrobe from IKEA would work on the wall where bench now is. Many options available, and you can customize the interior to just what you need.

If people are going to dump shoes etc-don't fight it. Give them a place to hang up the jackets and stash the shoes. Like MarleneM's suggestions.

use one of these (from Ikea) on each side or just replace the current table with one of these and remove the storage bench
