As you can see, lots of beige and lots of brown. I do have some pops of color- red and green. The large picture above the kitchen I bought at Lowes, but it reminds me of when I lived in Spain. I love my house- but I'm overwhelmed by the open rooms. Any help is appreciated.

With your cabinets being so dark, I'd stay in the beige/ khaki family. Get some red chairs!

I have similar cabinets and the same SW white walls everywhere and I have the same dilemma. Are you in FL? I've wanted a light yellow in my kitchen but not sure if this works in the great room. It's very difficult!

Green or a blueish grey. I have the same cabinet and trim colors and did a blue/grey. it will go good with the yellow you have in there too .

i have similar color cabinets and have been soliciting some advice from two designers and BM Revere Pewter, Edgecomb Gray, Elmira White and Muslin have been suggested (two former are neutral grays and the latter two more in the beige-ish color).

I have incredibly similar colored cabinets and a similar layout in that my breakfast room, kitchen, and family room are essentially that same space. I went with Benjamin Moore's Manchester Tan for the majority of it. It is a khaki tan with a tone of gray at night. I did an accent around my fireplace with Valspar's Mountain Ridge (Lovely chocolate) to give the whole room depth. and reflect the kitchen cabinets.

A mix of all of these, from room to room with the one with the most tone in the kitchen, would be lovely.

You've actually got a nice shade of off white that contrasts beautifully with the cabinets. It's a warm white, yet very clean looking.....I wouldn't paint the walls or ceiling, but paint the stools a bright color, like red, or lime green or orange for a Pop! of color......or, just paint the drywall that shows underneath the island and leave the stools as they are. Makes more of an impact, and I'm a huge fan of colorful kitchens.

The color of your floor tile (or same thone but lighter shade) will work perfectly. This way you don't have too many different colours. Don't do cold colors as they will look wrong in you color pool.

It may be your confused because the kitchen looks fine as it is.

Look at BM 1558. It is gray with a hint of green to it. I painted my laundry room cabinets and walls BM 1557 with Carera countertops and it looks great - very soothing. I have the same dark cherry cabinets and I am replacing the island and painting it BM 1558 which is just a deeper color with Calcutta Viagli counter tops. I thought the deeper color would look great with the dark cherry cabinets. I have dozens of paint samples and have such a hard time deciding!

I would pick a tan colour from your tile and paint the chairs a green to match the counters and pops of colour like burgundy. .

I like Behr paint colors: Gobi Desert and Raffia Cream which are coordinating colors to flow the kitchen into an adjoining room. Both colors are soft and muted. I use both colors in most of my flip projects.

I think you could really have fun with this space. The key is fun. Here are a few ideas.

You've got a ton of neutral going on, and there's certainly nothing wrong with neutral but perhaps infusing a bit of color into your living space wouldn't be a bad thing.

Color really matters. Red is often used in restaurant's because it is an appetite stimulant. Yellow is an attention getter and is considered optimistic but some people are more prone to lose their tempers and babies will cry more often in yellow rooms. Blue food in nature is rare and it is one of the least appetizing colors.

I personally think a kitchen should be exciting and inviting, and the color you choose should make the taste buds salute the chef. You can do this in many ways ... the painting you have above your fridge/stove has allot of orange/red and deep golds in it and that dish to the right of it has a deep golden color as well, plus the forsythia wreath you have on the pantry door is deep gold. Even the jars on your counter have these colors in them, actually your other plates all have bits of gold in them. I "think" you may like these colors ... ,o) From the photo deep golds appear to harmonize well with your cabinetry, which seems to have warm blonde/golden highlights. I believe "verde butterfly" granite has a dramatic forest green in it but also has thick swirls of silver and gold with a gold background?

If I were you, I'd go to your nearest paint dealer (Dunn Edwards, Frazee, etc.) and get a paint fan (ask them, they should be willing to give you one with no problem); find some colors that really excite you (make sure you know whether warm or cool colors work best given your cabinetry, tile color and carpet), get some paint samples (I've done as many as 4 or 5 when I'm thinking of changing out the color of one of my walls because you never know until it's on the wall ... and natural and incandescent light changes color) ... your local home improvement store should sell a nice size sample for $3 or $4 ... put up some generous swaths and live with them a while ...maybe a deep gold or red/orange color that is close to the color of the plate or colors in that painting and give it a try on the wall of your pantry (it's paint, you don't have that much wall space, paint's cheap, and paint can be changed ... that's the beauty of paint). If you're not into that much drama, perhaps a color similar to a warm caffe mocha. Any of these colors would look yummy with your bright white trim, doors, baseboards and chairs. Doing all the walls in your kitchen (including under the breakfast counter) area a deep color while leaving the trim, baseboards and chairs bright white will make them pop. Don't be afraid to experiment. It's only paint!!!

I also agree with Jeanne on the de-cluttering. If you accent your walls with drama you'll need fewer decorative items. Move your beautiful plate collection and that lovely colorful painting to another area and show them off as a collection. Perhaps a few nice sprays of high quality greenery up top your cabinetry, a beautiful, but simple, flower arrangement on your island ... or maybe even one of those beautiful ceramic roosters if you go for a more dramatic color (your white chairs are traditional and what is more traditional than a colorful rooster in the kitchen!), change out your pendants for something with a bit more volume and add some color to your upholstery.

I'm always re-painting my walls. It's a very fast way to make a high impact change if you don't want to spend big bucks, if you get bored or if you simply want a change.

PS: I really don't think that a saturated color will make things look too dark. What you do have to do is your homework and choose a color that harmonizes with the underlying tones in your wood.

You have a lot of dark cabinets. You could add glass to some doors, just to change it up. Does this room flow into another room? If yes all rooms should be same color. Color is hard to pick over a computer. Does not show real color. You need to decide what colors you like, what you have in other rooms and get samples put on yr walls. Only way to go. Have fun. It's paint can be changed. Keep trim white to go with white in room already. Benjamin Moore have some great colors, and give a lot of advice on their site.

Please remove all items from on top of cabinets. Not needed and looks cluttered. Beautiful kitchen. Don't over do.

Get new chandelier for table. Hang 36" from top of table. No gold go a brushed nickel. Remove all small items from all walls. Think scale. High ceilings big walls, need big art pieces. You have too much going on. I would remove those bookcases also. And table cloth. Show off wood.its nice and can't really be hurt.

Add panels to windows, lower only, and on ends after you paint. Then decide on a color. For sure paint both rooms same.

Use that pic you got at Lowes and show it off in Family room hang low.

I like the current, light color with the very dark cabinets. I'm afraid your kitchen might get rather dark with a saturated color. What about just painting the half wall under the bar? If it were to be green, for example, then you could pull the green into the family room with some draperies. A few green accents in the kitchen (not too many and not knick knack/smallish items) would be nice. And I only suggested green as an example, red would work well, or whatever color you like.

SECRETS D'ESQUISSES has a nice grey...soft and in the green range. I'd get rid of the chairs and get something contemporary, perhaps with leather or glossy something that gleams.

Your cabinets are about the color of mine. We have aloof gray by SW in our kitchen /dining area also in the adjacent living area. Thought you may like to see. We are happy with it.

we have that granite in our master bath, along with very similar cabinet color. I used a gray/green color on the walls, very soft. I think its called lichen. It works really well. There are also a lot of brown tones in the room (travertine) and cream in marble on the floor. It all looks great together.

The way that you apply color effects your entire look. I agree with travisinteriors. You need to remove the items on top of your cabinets. It does look cluttered. The color is bringing attention in the wrong way. I like your colorful picture above the cabinets on the refrigerator/oven wall. You need two more of the same size. Hang all three in a row above the cabinets and remove everything else. Consider pulling a color you like out of these pictures and paint the kitchen island wall that the counter chairs sit against.

Another way to dramatically add color that would connect and uplift this whole space would be to have a feature wall of color or pattern. The wall that your TV is on is like an architectural feature in the room. By putting color on it by painting, stencil, or with wallpaper it becomes a filling piece of art in of itself. Pick a color out of your picture from the kitchen.

To spread the height and color in the room even further consider curtains like what I drew in the sketch I have added. Curtains just the height of the first window would really cut the room in two. I rearranged your pictures on either side of the panels. The drawing is a bit off, but you get the idea. You could consider a large mirror covering the entire portion of wall between the top and bottom windows. it would "connect" the windows and give you a feel of a huge window. The flanking of the curtains would help make this work.

Also Sherrie Story for posting the picture of your kitchen. I have a horrible time picking colors. It once took me 5 years to decide on appliance color and I picked white. My mom passed away a few years ago and every comment made, reminded me of my mom. You all guided me yesterday and I LOVED every comment. So I picked BM Sea Haze- I loved it as soon as I put it on the wall. I didn't think I would, but I did. The chairs are in the process of being painted red. I plan to removed the items from above the cabinets too. I'll post pictures when I'm done. I've never posted on here before- I can't thank you enough for the guidance. Happy Holidays to all of you.

Great choice on the color. I think the chairs in red will really jazz up your room. I decluttered a few years ago and it is very liberating. It also is so much easier to clean too. I do hope your large picture escapes the purge. Love the scale and vibrancy it adds. I hope you do post pictures. You have a lovely home and I think the changes you are making will just accentuate this.

Your kitchen is amazing to start!! To add a bit more pop I would go with a darker beige for the walls. Too pull the colors together, I would suggest getting some darker stools. Possibly dark steal framed with leather seats and no back! Can't wait to see the final project!

I would go neutral but add a bit of color: Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray SW 7029 would be a gorgeous tone in your kitchen

I vote with Custom Woodworking's idea, a slightly deeper and warmer neutral that is in the same color family as the floor tile. I think with the darker cabinets and granite, having those tall walls coordinate with the floor will make it all seem planned.
