That was a trip back in time! :D

So, it depends on how the floor is finished. You may be able to use a liquid wax or Murphy's oil soap, but it may have a varnish or polyurethane finish.

There's no business like show business like no business on earth...

I've got the same problem in my house. Anybody got any better ideas than butter/parkay? Don't think I can afford that much butter or margarine.

there's a wood floor enhancer they sell at big box stores that you can use.
you spray it on and let it sit a few minutes and then use a swiffer and wipe it up.
it renews the floor finish.

And parquet flooring can look beautiful...fits both traditional and modern decorating if you don't just focus on the floor.

Clean and wax a spot to see if that's the problem. But if there's any yellowing from the previous finish, get it sanded, finished and waxed. My Granny had a Bissel floor polisher. Twice a year she got that thing out and every room but the kitchen and bath got a good waxing whether it needed it or not.

Johnson's still makes that non-slip paste wax for floors that the Bissel floor polishers used.

Johnson's also makes a non-slip liquid wax for wood floors that is spread with a lamb's wool applicator on a squeegee-type holder. Check instructions before using on your floor to see if it is compatible with the floor finish.

Commercial janitorial companies can clean, wax and buff floors.

Older folks used to slip on rugs that were put on those gorgeous, shiny, slick-as-glass floors and broke their hips. This was before titanium hip replacement joints. So many older people ended up in wheelchairs because of that. My great-grandmother and a great-uncle both slipped on rugs.
